Jeff Scott doesn't need to be OC

Nov 28, 2014, 8:57 AM

IF he doesn't do well, we end up losing another OC and our BEST recruiter.

That's just something to think about imho.

True. He's too valuable to lose IMO. But, if we don't give

Nov 28, 2014, 9:01 AM

Him a chance, will he walk? I hope not.

I think he is still a few more years to be in

Nov 28, 2014, 9:10 AM

in a position to walk... He LOVES Clemson and loves recruiting and is still real young. I don't see him walking for a quite a few more years. If he doesn't get promoted and we hire outside, and 3-5 years down the road that guy leaves and then JS doesn't get the job, then he is likely to walk. But I definitely think we are safe for a quite a few more years...

Exactly. I say give him a raise to keep him happy.

And then next time give him the job.

If you promise a guy the job when it opens, then pass him over, it comes about a lot more than money.

I don't think I've seen anything that said we've promised Scott the job.

It would be good if we could get Lincoln Riley and then more/less divide Chad's salary among those two. Scott is currently getting $245,000/yr (Riley is getting $200,000). If we could offer Riley $700k and then bump Scott up to $450-500k, then I think he would be happy. That would also give us room for any increase in salary for Riley, should he work out.

But I think he could do really well and if you don't at least give him a chance, he is going to get that chance elsewhere and you lose him either way. I think he has earned the chance.

May be time for a pay raise to keep him happy for a couple more years

If not OC at Clemson it will be at smu.

Plus you risk losing key members of this recruiting class.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

If you don't give him a chance to move up, you lose him

Nov 28, 2014, 9:04 AM

Anyway

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

If we don't name him OC, I'm sure Morris will at SMU.

Nov 28, 2014, 9:44 AM

That's something else to think about.

Re: Jeff Scott doesn't need to be OC

I agree. Jeff is our best recruiter and it would be silly to risk it. We need to hire an outside OC with experience. I like Lincoln Riley, as do MANY others here on TNET. I also like Scott Frost at Oregon, though Riley may be the most realistic choice. Someone posted last night that Frost only made 400K at Oregon. I'm pretty sure we could beat that, considering what we were paying Morris.
