If that sequence doesn't typify how far Clemson baseball has fallen....

0-2 count, runners on 1st and 2nd. Up 2-1 in the bottom of the 8th.
Pitch 3: outside Pitch 4: low in the dirt, ball gets away. Runners move up. Pitch 5: grounder to first booted, then kicked into shallow right field. Both runners score.
Clemson now down 2-3.
Hey Jack, get aggressive buddy. Go after the K on 0-2. Instead you gave up two playing it safe. Bad game management, bad fielding. Bad team.
Time to retire bud.

A friend of mine who goes to many games told me that if we

get ahead 0-2 on a batter, the next pitche is at least a foot off the plate. He had been telling me that for a while. So, finally I went to the C of C game. Sure enough, we get ahead 0-2 and I tell my buddy, that my friend says this pitch will be a foot off the plate. Right on cue......foot off the plate, next ones a ball, fouls one off, ball, walk.
On the other hand, it seems we have had a pretty good history of grooving an 0-2 pitch as well............

Okey was calling the pitches so any questions should be addressed to him. And no, the batter cannot see the catcher.

U ever played baseball? U can absolutely see the catcher shift over too early. Knock the ball down at first and you're still in the game. Story of the season. Terrible defense

LOL you are 100% correct...IF the catcher moves too early....that was not the question. And, no, I don't play baseball but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night and they had cable and every college and pro game I watched the catcher positioned himself into his receiving position when the pitcher initiated his wind up.

HONEST RESEARCH HERE!!!!! I made a point of watching parts of 4 college games and 3 professional games and I saw 33 counts go 0-2. 2 of the next pitches were strikes (one swinging and one called) The other 31 were off the plate or in the dirt. I have the napkin to prove it LOL.

It's why these debates are so aggravating. There needs to be some kind of change but the loudest voices on here clearly do not watch/understand baseball. Okey has allowed two passed balls all season. But let's go ahead and throw probably the best player on the team under the bus.

If the pitch was in the dirt, the official scorer probably ruled it a wild pitch and the pitcher is who these yahoos should throw under the bus if that is their desire.

I was not throwing him under the bus, I was actually agreeing with the 0-2 philosophy that the earlier poster said was so predictable and wrong.

Changing up your pitches
Apr 27, 2015, 4:48 PM
|
|
is a good strategy, but it only works if you keep changing it up. Throw outside some, but throw strikes enough to keep them honest. When you do it like we have done where you always throw it out of the strike zone with an 0-2 count you are defeating the purpose of changing in the first place. When you establish a pattern even a hack coaching staff can pick up on it and use it against you.
