Where did you find orange azeleas? I have lots of colors but I've never seen orange.

They are Flaming azaleas and they are native to the mountains and foothills.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It's an orange deciduous azalea. Don't remember where it

Apr 20, 2020, 2:19 PM [ in reply to Re: The orange azaleas are starting to brighten up the yard. ]

came from. Have seen them at lots of non-bigbox plant places. Some varieties are very fragrant. I think it's some sort of cross between a regular azalea and some of the "native azaleas" that are deciduous but have blooms that look more like honeysuckle. Those are much more fragrant.

Yes they are. The azaleas and the rhododendron usually bloom together in early to mid June on The Roan. Elevation of these pictures is about 5800 feet with Roan High Knob topping out around 6200. The Appalachian Trail is the pathway you see in these pictures. Very well maintained and parking is at Carver's Gap.
You may need a light jacket in Mid June as I am pretty sure it has never reached 80 degrees on the hottest summer days....

I need this! But I'm guessing they won't do well in the low

You can get some of these from Woodlanders Nursery in Aiken SC, the only issue is there is some variation of color within a plant species,

79, yep sometimes they are a bit more Tennessee orange, AKA yellow...

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yup. Bloom shape, color, and fragrance can vary greatly.***
