I miss "Small Ball"

Mar 4, 2019, 8:59 AM

Actually I do NOT miss that, but I would like to see a little more of it. What I would really like to see is PITCHING. Pitching beats hitting - not my saying - but has a lot of truth thru the ages.

Lee seems to be trying different things early in the season to see what needs improvement. I have no problem with his approach to winning. It's like the old saying, "To make a really good omelet, you have to break a few eggs". Lee is spot on IMO with developing his team. I'm convinced that we will continue to see improvement in Pitching, Bunting, and a dose of small ball mixed in when needed. Just sit back and watch it happen.

I'm not all that much of a bball fan, but I like our team. This is just a novice's viewpoint on our team.

Just hate to see all the stranded runners and backwards Ks. Not swinging the bat is hard to watch when guys are on base.

I actually prefer power hitters, not necessarily home run hitters, but guys who can drive the ball into the gaps.

Some of the small ball tactics that used to be quite

prevalent in baseball (such as bunting with runners on 1st and 2nd) have been statistically proven to be poor decisions. Just swinging the bat in those situations rather than sacrificing an out results in a higher expected run total. That's just one example, but there are others as well.

This is spot on!

There are very few of us who actually follow baseball trends.

Coaches are not choosing "their style" for ego. Statistics back up this transition across baseball.

The key word is "just swing" which the Tigers failed to do Friday.

I'm sure that has been addressed.

Things like Sunday happen when you first find out a freshman isn't ready for the moment. A coach usually doesn't know until it happens.

I'm sure Monte will adjust accordingly.
