Tigers Looking for Cure to Red-zone Problems

Clemson placed extra emphasis on red zone offense in practice this week to be more productive against the 15th-ranked TCU Horned Frogs. Full Story »

BC had those same types of stats

before we played them: great defensive stats and high scoring/game. Maybe it will not mean much for TCU either.

Nothin' left to do but smile, smile, smile!!!!

TCU's D is a TAD bit better than BC"s, but I hope you're

right. I do say we get more than freaking 43 yds. rushing. Sheesh, Spiller can get that with one carry if he can just break one or two.

Ironic that our strength is our depth at running back.

That tells me that either our OLine or playcalling are very bad thus far... (maybe some of both)

Or maybe

Sep 24, 2009, 11:54 AM

Opponent defenses are playing the run first, and our passing game hasn't taken them away from that strategy yet.

Bingo. BC and GT were playing 7 & 8 men in the box pretty

much the whole game unless we were in obvious passing situations. And most times we have been pretty predictable in play calling. I would like to see more play action of 1st down to give more time to complete passes and maybe hit something big. Then gash em with a draw on 2nd down. Haven't seen many draws and not enough misdirection to keep the DEs and LBs honest.

ironic that our strength the past 4 years was in our RBs

but they still were almost always shut down by capable defenses.

Poor OL!!

OL. What's new? Thanks Brad Scott!***

It will remain that way until they are not so PREDICTABLE and slow to get the ball moving FORWARD after the snap.
What ever happened to linemen firing off at the snap and quick handoff's?
Trying to fool someone in slowmotion ain't working.
But then I'm an old geezer. Back in the day..............

Problem is, the entire offense consists of CJ or Jacoby, &

Sep 24, 2009, 12:52 PM

every team knows that. Until the other guys step up, there wont be much offensive success. Its pretty easy to stop only two guys on offense.

is this the ghost of TB speaking???

"Three is like getting seven a lot of times.”

I understand it but that doesnt mean I want to hear it come out of our coaches mouth.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I doubt it...

Coach Bowden usually needed the 7 to win ball games. We'll have to see how this season plays in order to get a full picture of that statement. But, take last year's Southern Cal team, they didn't need to average a lot of points to win ball games. Or take women's softball as an example, if you have the best pitcher in the league, then you usually only have to score 1 or 2 runs to win games, a 1-0 lead would be just as secure as a 10-0 lead.

But, of course you want a lot more TDs over FGs!

excellent post...I want TDs...we all do...but with a D like we saw against BC...I'll take a boat load of 6-3 wins!!!

the fact we have a very young and inexperienced QB. I think he needs to be willing to spread the ball around more. He seems to be keying in on Ford too much (which I totally understand) and the defense is all over it too many times. He needs to show the defense he is willing to go anywhere on the field where we have a man open, IMHO.
