I am rewatching the Orange Bowl and Okla decided to go for

it on 4th down. They try a fake direct snap to Perine, which fails.
My question is, why is Mayfield not called for illegal motion? He is stepping forward and to the side when the ball is hiked, obviously trying to make the defense think he is adjusting the coverage. But even though he he trying deception, it still is an illegal motion, is it not? Why is he allowed to step forward?

I believe you can have one man in motion. That play is used quite often.

You are correct, but forward motion is allowed only in arena and maybe Canadian football.

Good point, especially considering he was trying to deceive the defense. I
f you watch closely, you'll see that Gallman has an occasional forward lean right before the snap. I believe we got flagged for it once. So many penalties could be called if they were really looking for it.

What was the play with Ray Ray immediately after the fake punt? Seems like some kind of trick play from the telecast.

Seem to remember them talking about some trick play? They did not show the down before DW scored and no replay.
