I am more annoyed at the drive management than No FG

Sep 5, 2016, 9:55 AM

While everyone is still knotted up over FG or No Field Goal I am annoyed at what lead to that decision:

1st and 10 on the AU 23: Gallman Dive for no gain
2nd and 10 on the AU 23: Gallman Dive for no gain
3rd and 10 on the AU 23: Clemson calls a time out
3rd and 10 on AU 23: Gallman sweep for 6 yard (Runs out of bounds to stop the clock)
4th and 10 on the AU 17: Gallman dive and is 2 yards short with 40 seconds

The decision to run the ball up the gut 3 out of 4 times had my head scratching.....

What really screwed things up was Gallman NOT staying in bounds on his 3rd down run. Had he stayed in, Auburn would have had almost no time left. They were out of time outs. Poor decision.

Since we are second guessing, we had the ball first and 10 on the Auburn 23 and we played essentially a prevent offense. No high percentage passes, no Watson runs, just Gallman up the gut 3 times....

The management of the drive is what created the FG/No FG Mess....

This is a fair assessment.

It all comes down to Gallman staying in bounds.

Then on 4th down, put DW4 in the shotgun, have him do a rollout, and then throw the ball out of the back of the end zone. Game over.

Agree totally! Gallman got his yards running up the gut all night as the play calling was awful. So the offensive plan and game management was trying not to lose. Which is the exact same philosophy we use in special teams. You will never win a NC or beat Alabama with that mentality. Alabama doesnt play not to lose. They sttack you with all aspects of the game.

One problem with your assessment...

We should have ran it up the gut all 4 times and they would have 5 seconds left, tops.

That would have worked....

I was sort of suggesting that when I spoke of Gallman running out of bounds. I didn't do a good job of spelling that out...My bad

You're right if we had run it up the middle 4 out of 4

Then Auburn is left with less than 10 seconds of clock to go 80 yards.
