I agree with this. It is the President's job to nominate.

Barack Obama is the President, so he should nominate an appointee in a normal amount of time. The Senate then has the responsibility of approving. That's the part that will probably take a while, and that's not a problem.
"Let the people have a say," Constitutionally, is a dumb thing to say.

I have faith that this senate can delay the appointment for 10 months.

Specifically, they didn't want a recess appointment.

At least, that's what the resolution said. Of course, it was just a non-binding expression of their opinion, not any sort of law passed.
This wouldn't be an issue today. Obama will not make a recess appointment.

Well, I just agree with the general principle...

That Presidents should do their job, and the Senate should do theirs, regardless of party affiliation or election cycles.

You have more faith than me. Their 'ginas are way to big to hold the line that long. I wish they were more like Democrats who never, under any cicumstance, disregard their agenda.

with just a year left in his presidency, President Ronald Reagan nominated Judge Anthony Kennedy to fill the vacancy left by Justice Powell. In his remarks he said, "....Join together in a bipartisan effort to fulfill our constitutional obligation of restoring the US Supreme Court to full strength."

and Reagan hadn't spend the prior 7 years taking a crap on the Constitution and alienating Congress.
But hey...I actually don't agree with delaying for 10 months if Obama nominates someone worthy of confirmation.
I was responding to the line of thinking that Obama was duly elected...he was...and so were all the members of the GOP controlled Senate.
