How rare are 5 stars? Pretty dang rare

This article from SB Nation is pretty interesting. You can get a sense of how rare these 5 star recruits are that programs covet. Hopefully the link works.

Here’s how long their odds are to reach various recruiting ratings, using class of 2018 data from Rivals, if we settle on 300,000 football-playing seniors as a fair estimate:

33 five-stars, or 0.01 percent of the class
399 four-stars, or 0.13 percent of the class
1,409 three-stars, or 0.47 percent of the class
1,842 two-stars, or 0.61 percent of the class
296,317 unrated, or 98.77 percent of the class
Players rated three-stars and up, who make up almost all of Power 5 recruiting classes, are roughly 0.6 percent of seniors playing high school football.

Makes you appreciate what Dabo and team are doing even more.

It speaks volumes that we now expect to get 5 stars & don’t go crazy like the Coots when a 4 star recruit commits. The culture has definitely changed!

And even more rare is the five star quarterback who plays up to expectations. Here is hoping that Trevor Lawrence plays that role for us.

Three times Alabama and Clemson met in the last three years in the college football playoffs. Lots of great players on both sides came and went. Watson was arguably The difference maker for us.

That and having enough five star power in the defensive front seven so that the other team cannot simply push you around for first downs.

Even rarer still, are cheerleading position coaches who can take a middle of the pack CFB school to the upper tier and maintain that perch through belief in his system
and the substantial effort it takes to do so .
