I guess just good ol discipline (they do have players do undisciplined things off of the field)

Fundamentally sound.

Great leadership.

Because they have.....

CONFIDENCE in themselves.

They are trained to block out crowds, etc.,

the mental things that can disrupt a game. I heard that on Fox Sports yesterday. They do it well.

Because they are bit of a machine with great coaches and

players. A machine that can break every once in a while, but it doesn't happen often.

Did any of you guys watch that 60 Minutes a couple of weeks

Nov 30, 2013, 4:20 PM

ago? They had a whole segment on Saban/Alabama. Sabin was saying that they don't prepare game plans for each opponent; they train each position to just play their each individual perfect game. As long as they do that, they'll win no matter who they play. Either way, those are still kids, and they're human. No amount of coaching can prepare kids for situations like what they're in right now.

That's really cool about the 60 Minutes article. However, I totally disagree with your last sentence. That's exactly what good coaching does. It prepares you for situation...and it does so in the exact way you described: each play your individual perfect game.

You're right - kinda...

Nov 30, 2013, 4:41 PM

But like I said, these aren't robots out there on the field - they're 20 year old kids, playing in an extremely hostile situation. Some things are just beyond the coaches control. It was a very interesting piece though, and provided a lot of insight into what makes that guy tick.

I agree that they're not robots...and they're certainly not infallible. However, I think Saban's style of coaching is more conducive to controlling player emotions in a big situation.

Unfortunately this is an area with Clemson that makes me nervous. While Dabo's emotion is great at times, I think that it can also have the reverse effect on players in times of trouble. When we're up, we're UP! But when we're down, we're very down.

when you have great coaching and get great players.. it goes hand in hand.. plus you have been there.. when other teams haven't.
