It's completely understandable; especially for the students who are sports fans. How would you like to attend a school where both the football and basketball team are dumpster fires? It's enough to drive you to drink. Granted, they made the choice. But having realized their error, it's very difficult for a young person to swallow their pride and transfer to another school. So they suffer, and drink excessively. Go Tigers!

It doesn't matter how drunk you get, you still realize that you are a coot and try to drink it away. The next day, you wake up a coot again and have to start over.

Pretty nasty hit-piece coming from the hometown newspaper. What it really exposes is just how little the police care about underage drinking in Columbia. I can't imagine the fun of binge drinking without the fear of getting busted by the popo. Also, that "hospital or jail" routine sounds like some 3rd world policing.
