Terrible news but perhaps the silver lining is ...

Sep 14, 2011, 7:40 PM

this is a sign the coaches are trying to get that toughness back...the old fashioned way...like Steele said they would.

He's never gonna be the same again

Shoulder surgery is a hard surgery to come back from (I know this from having surgery and trying to come back after it). The shoulder never feels the same again. I pray that he has a good recovery.

It depends.

I've known people who have had rotator cuff surgery who claim the shoulder feels better than ever after surgery.

But I know people who have had torn labrums repaired who are never the same.

It clearly depends on the type of injury, the success of the surgery (and surgeon), and dedication during rehab.

I'm wishing Smith the best. Hoping for a successful surgery and a quick and full recovery.

GO TIGERS!!!!

One problem is that Cloy usually fills in for McClain, so now McClain will have to go the whole game unless someone else is ready (which I doubt or we would have seen them against Wofford or Troy).

time for ryan norton to get his feet wet***

As a torn labrum and surgery survivor, I agree... My

shoulder will never quite be the same. I'd say I'm about 90% recovered after a year, which is good enough for me (but I'm not a lineman). Also, the PT was EXCRUCIATING for several months. I've broken numerous bones and had dozens of painful injuries, but that was just something I had never experienced before and will probably never again.

I had shoulder surgery about 20 years ago. It was a rotator cuff repair. It took months for full recovery but, my shoulder has felt great for the last 19 and a half years.

Yall do realize he played with a seperated shoulder....

Sep 14, 2011, 8:41 PM

in the Wofford game so he did not get hurt in practice. he played the entire game with a seperated shoulder because he didnt complain about it enough for the training staff to realize it was worse. Pretty tough kid if you ask me.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Didn't realize that...

Smith suffered the injury at practice on Tuesday, from Clemson SID.

I guess that's one more reason to be concerned about the info coming from this organization.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

that was the big talk after the o line played so bad.....

Sep 14, 2011, 9:07 PM

was that Smith had played with a separated shoulder. I didnt see it said he was hurt in practice. Maybe he hurt it in the Wofford game and then it got hurt worse at practice. who knows with this training staff after KP played all last year with broken ribs and supposedly nobody knew about it.

You don't play football, or much of anything with...

Sep 14, 2011, 9:24 PM

Broken ribs or a seperated shoulder.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You can play, but not well. KP showed that w/broken ribs.***

This is really bad news

Sep 14, 2011, 9:10 PM

Cloy will probably take his place meaning there is no meaningful backup left.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Bummer. I'm glad Cloy decided to return or it would be ugly***
