When I lived in Albuquerque and attended UNM...

NMSt was the big rival and I would occasionally feel guilty about some of the jokes I used to make at the Aggies expense because some were jokes gamecock butttwipes told about Clemson----until I actually visited the NMSt campus---which, in the late 60's/early 70's wasn't much to look at
To this day I still have a strong affinity for Northern NM and consider it a second home, but Less Crucial (Las Cruces)....ehhh...not so much.

NMS is not necessarily going to be a pushover. Their all time record on their home court is: 605-152. The have had a winning record for 47 out of 49 seasons (according to their website). They are going to be amped up to beat an ACC team! The Tigers better show up with their "A" game.

Google maps tells me it's not as close to San Diego as you might think. About like driving to Tampa from Greenville(SC).
Distance from Las Cruces to San Diego:
9 h 51 min (681.3 mi) via I-10 W and I-8 W

Las Cruces is one of the hottest place in our country. Yet, the first time I went through there we had to pull over and stay the night because it was snowing so badly. Nothing like snow on the cacti.

The 3,900 elevation keeps it from being brutally hot

Man, I love New Mexico. Easily one of my favorite places in the continental US.. it's just unbelievably cool if you enjoy open spaces and unspoilt natural scenery. Never in my life have I seen stars like I did in the middle of nowhere in NM. Weather can be unpredictable to say the least but it's well worth it.

Where they go on roads in the middle of nowhere and do business. It's easy to think "that's unrealistic, other cars would be passing" but once you qcruwlly drive on those roads you realize that it's not uncommon to not see another car for miles and miles

Las Cruces was one of my regular stops during my working days. I used to tell people the humidity was so low that when I wanted to take a shower the water would evaporate before it reached my body. Before anti-static agents were the norm, the carpets on the hotel and motel floors gave a person a good charge. When one would touch the metal handle on the room door, you could get a real good jolt and see an arc.
La Posta Restaurant in Old Messila, is one of the best restaurants in the entire US. If you are ever in the arrea I would highly recommend it.

Drove through Las Cruces a few years back on the way to Phoenix to see the Tigers play. Talk about desolate...
