So if Trump could stop this with a speech what would it...

Jun 3, 2020, 9:05 AM

look like, what would he say? I resign? Do you think that would end the rioting, looting and burning in America, really?

Nothing is going to stop this violence except an overwhelming presence of authority.

He can't stop it, he's pretty much worthless. Best he can do is not make it worse.

Falsehood flies, and truth comes limping after it, so that when men come to be undeceived, it is too late; the jest is over, and the tale hath had its effect: like a man, who hath thought of a good repartee when the discourse is changed, or the company parted; or like a physician, who hath found out an infallible medicine, after the patient is dead.

Obama ordered national guard several times at state's request. Which states has Trump failed? He plainly told the governors that it's their responsibility to ask. He doesn't have legal authority to send in the guard without a request.

You're surely call him a dictator if he did.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpgringofhonor-clemsontiger1988-110.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

So we'll change the subject now?

Jun 3, 2020, 9:19 AM

You asked if Trump could stop this with a speech. I said no, all he can do is make it worse.

Do you think he could help things with a speech? If so, what would he need to say?

Jun 3, 2020, 9:33 AM

'he is worthless.' You opened the door for comparison to O by making that claim and I submitted that Trump's only action might be to send in the guard but he can't until state request it.

You wanted the subject changed and I understand. It isn't the Tea Party out looting, rioting, burning and shooting police. It isn't the lockdown protestors or the 2nd amendment rights crew.

These people are democrat voters if and when they decide to vote.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpgringofhonor-clemsontiger1988-110.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

"He's worthless" is the answer to your question.

Jun 3, 2020, 9:38 AM

He cannot utter any words to help things because he's worthless. He has made himself worthless through his lack of leadership over the last 3 years.

So now you're changing the subject, and I understand why you'd want to: you didn't like the answer to your question.

OK, so what's your new subject? Trump has to use force because his words are worthless? Yeah, that happens with petty dictators.

Obama used force to end riots.

Jun 3, 2020, 9:46 AM

What's you point? It's lawful to assign national guard to mayors or governors. That's all any president can do.

Why is it that Trump is wrong for offering and assigning the NG but it was a good thing when Obama did it?

Re: Is there a leader that could stop this? Biden? Abrams?***

Jun 3, 2020, 9:23 AM

Stop it? Like magically dispel all civil unrest everywhere? Of course not.

But there are leaders all of all political stripes whose words carry weight because people view them as sincere, who are genuinely empathetic and who are genuinely concerned about improving things, who don't refer to good people "on both sides" of a white nationalist march, who don't tell non-white Americans to go back where they came from.

Those leaders can help at a moment like this. Trump is not one of those leaders.

Hard, complex, multifaceted problems require ....

Jun 3, 2020, 10:06 AM

complex, multifaceted solutions. Respectful, thoughtful and open minded dialogue with a willingness to champion change will be required of leadership. Trump is not capable of that.

Simple minded people fixate on one concept such as label ANTIFA a terrorist organization or show more force as magical solutions. Much like Afghanistan and Iraq, those tactics only give the illusion of success and the underlying problems remain. Years later nothing changes and country may be worse off. Unlike those countries, America’s underlying problems of racial injustice and economic disparity can be remedied. Leadership and change is necessary. In the middle is the hard work to figure out what that change should be.

So put the National Guard and Military on the American streets; how long will they be there, will they be deployed again .... and again. How will society change? More thought and work needs to be applied to implementing solutions to cure the underlying ailments. This isn’t an acute condition but rather a chronic disease.

Jun 3, 2020, 9:39 AM [ in reply to Re: Is there a leader that could stop this? Biden? Abrams?*** ]

Obama spoke and things only got worse.

"First, the waves of protests across the country represent a genuine and legitimate frustration over a decades-long failure to reform police practices and the broader criminal justice system in the United States. The overwhelming majority of participants have been peaceful, courageous, responsible, and inspiring. They deserve our respect and support, not condemnation — something that police in cities like Camden and Flint have commendably understood.

On the other hand, the small minority of folks who’ve resorted to violence in various forms, whether out of genuine anger or mere opportunism, are putting innocent people at risk, compounding the destruction of neighborhoods that are often already short on services and investment and detracting from the larger cause. I saw an elderly black woman being interviewed today in tears because the only grocery store in her neighborhood had been trashed. If history is any guide, that store may take years to come back. So let’s not excuse violence, or rationalize it, or participate in it. If we want our criminal justice system, and American society at large, to operate on a higher ethical code, then we have to model that code ourselves."

Hal Marx, the mayor of Petal, Miss., a town about 90 miles southeast of Jackson, first commented on the arrest on Tuesday, tweeting, “Why in the world would anyone choose to become a #PoliceOfficer in our society today?”

He later argued that he didn't see any "unreasonable" conduct from the officers, adding: "If you can say you can’t breathe, you’re breathing."

"Most likely that man died of overdose or heart attack. Video doesn’t show his resistance that got him in that position. Police being crucified," he continued.

Lately when he goes by a ###### to speak he will then immediately repeat the prior thought on his own in slightly different words. Is this some age or mental related issue? I have wondered because it is so prevalent

Even if he could utter the right words and cause something positive to happen the haters would try to thwart it. This is what we've become. Insert Biden's name for Trump. And his haters would do the same. It would be nice to be better than we are but it doesnt fit some folks agenda.

Almost all of the cities experiencing problems are run by democrats. If their mayors won't let the police enforce curfews, I don't think Trump could say anything to stop the looting and arson.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Jun 3, 2020, 12:11 PM

to the effect of, "I recognize that I am not the best person for this job. I am in over my head and America needs leaders with experience, compassion, and empathy right now. While it has been an honor to serve, I humbly tender my resignation in hopes for a greater America."

This scenario would never, and I mean never, happen. If he actually did resign, it would tweet out something like:

You people are a bunch of ungreatful ###holes! If you want THUGS and rapists and MuRdererers taking over America then have at it! I did everything perfect and you still don't like it. I quit! You people suck!
