Shaq Smith

Perhaps Germanic, but has anyone seen or heard anything from Shaq Smith. He's a RS Freshman and ESPN lists him as having 3 tackles. I expected to see him lighting it up but haven't noticed him on the field. Just curious if anyone saw him out there and I just missed it.

Yep ... I think people were asking the same sorts of questions about O'Daniel a couple of years ago. Hinting that he might be a "bust" ... and JD Davis (a notorious 5-heart recruit) actually got more snaps than Tre Lamar against Va Tech.

I saw him play on defense against Louisville. In addition, he plays on special teams in virtually every game.

Honestly, no I haven't. I work 60 hours a week, have a 5 year old and a 1 year old, and I'm a full time engineering student at Arizona State. I don't have time to listen to every single interview... thanks for your condescension though.

I work 60 hours a week as well, sometimes more. I don't see how you are a full time engineering student as well. Seems insane / impossible, or you just never sleep

Glad to know you do have a little time to think about why a 19(?) year old kid is not playing more.
Best of luck with all you have going on.

Wait, 60 hours a week, two young kids AND a full time student?? Did you pile it on a little thick there?

I definitely wish him the best! That guy was all over the field in his high school footage. Hoping that translates to CU!

From what I've read, his HS gameplan was very simple

Something along the lines of "see ball, get ball." That might be a reason he's struggled to grasp the defense.

That's understandable. Especially when you consider the few REALLY talented guys coming out of high school. When you have raw talent a HS will tend to just let them play and make plays. He was at IMG though, so I'd be surprised if they lacked coaching there to prepare these studs for the next level.

Anybody who's ever seen high school and youth football in the Maryland/DC area would understand why it's gonna take some time. Smith, like O'Daniel, has tons of athletic ability, but has yet to learn the intricacies of playing linebacker. In time, he'll be an absolute beast for us.

Never did understand why he didn't get more time, but assumed he must have trouble in some area in practice for them to keep him out.

Our staff with good recruiting has placed the program in a position that does not require us to put players on the field that have not fully matured within the system. As already mentioned we have starters on this team that everyone had sort of forgotten about. I guess the best way to sum this up is a famous wine make maker Paul Masson said "We will sell no wine before its time".
