Hate to say this, but pulling for UGA helps Clemson.....

Dec 4, 2019, 10:38 AM

If UGA beats LSU, Clemson and UGA are #2 and #3 and most likely LSU drops to #4. Ohio State, being #1 would probably choose Arizona to play LSU rather than given them a home field in Atlanta...If that happens then Clemson vs UGA in the Peach Bowl would be epic...

I still think they might place OhSt in Atlanta. Still closer for their fans.
But I would love for us to get ATL.

Im hoping for a UGA win because the dawgs were the biggest rival to us when I was at Clemson 83-87.

I still remember being in Athens when the kickers went back and forth.

Re: LSU is going to boat race Georgia***

Dec 4, 2019, 10:47 AM

Honestly, If it is a close win for Georgia, I can see the committee putting Georgia at 2 LSU at 3 and Clemson at 4. This is just based on how they have treated Clemson all year.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

A loss should knock LSU out...

Dec 4, 2019, 10:48 AM

assuming OU and Utah both win.

I think the CFP committee would have a hard time justifying keeping LSU ahead of one-loss conference champions OU or Utah

Furthermore, the CFP committee knows they need more teams from outside the Southeast in order to maintain a higher level of interest.

This will not be the case.

They will not have a rematch for the first game of the playoff.

Dec 4, 2019, 11:08 AM [ in reply to LSU is going to boat race Georgia*** ]

Each team has the opposite weakness, weaknesses that will face each other for the whole game: UGA's offense; LSU's defense.

It all depends on whether UGA's offense can hold on to the ball and score. If so, it will be a close game and could go either way. Remember that LSU only beat Auburn 23-20 at home.

If not, LSU will win big, scoring big in the second half against a gassed UGA defense.

So we can remember what a 'loss' feels like? No thanks.

Re: Hate to say this, but pulling for UGA helps Clemson.....

Dec 4, 2019, 10:48 AM

For Clemson fans, maybe. For the rest of the country, I disagree. LSU beats UGa and the top 4 is LSU, OSU, CU and either Utah or Oklahoma. The CFP needs more teams from outside the Southeast US in it. Utah would be a fun addition, and Oklahoma, with Hurts at the helm, would be good as well.

I don't think most of the country wants to see two SEC teams in the CFP.

Re: Hate to say this, but pulling for UGA helps Clemson.....

Dec 4, 2019, 10:52 AM

Actually I think it hurts College Football in general, for once again the vaunted SEC would have two teams in the CFP top 4.
Knock UGA out and seed Clemson, LSU, and Ohio State whichever way the committee thinks.
Then have either Oklahoma, or Utah fills out the 4th spot, and you have at least one team from the ACC, SEC, Big 10, and either the PAC 12 or the BIG 12.

Problem is the distances are almost the same

Dec 4, 2019, 10:59 AM

Ohio State to Atlanta - 568 miles
LSU to Atlanta - 527 miles

40 miles does not make a home field advantage. Bigger difference for Clemson and UGA!!

I think they'll consider travel arrangments

Dec 4, 2019, 11:21 AM

Clemson and UGA could drive to atlanta. LSU/OSU are flying to their destination no matter what.

Clemson is going back to the fiesta Bowl.

Re: Hate to say this, but pulling for UGA helps Clemson.....

Dec 4, 2019, 11:02 AM

I honestly don't think the committee wants to put 31-0hio State against us... and realistically, we will play against the SEC champion unless both 31-0 and LSU bites it in the CCG. I still think they would try and pair us with the SEC opponent if we are #1 (and LSU sneaks in as #4) Even then, I think OU and Utah would need to lose to put a beaten LSU back into the playoff. Baylor might be the only ones fretting a beaten LSU. They will not pit UGA vs LSU in the 1 vs 4 or the 2 vs 3 spot.

I think the world becomes much more interesting if 31-0hio State loses to Wisc. Then Utah and OU/Baylor wins.

Then I see Ohio State vs Alabama in the bridesmaid bowl.

Re: Hate to say this, but pulling for UGA helps Clemson.....

Dec 4, 2019, 11:09 AM

Why would OSU not want to play LSU in Atlanta?
They never play in ATL, and Columbus is like 40 miles further from ATL than LSU.

I guess you could say it’s home field in that it’s the site of the SECCG, and LSU would be playing two games in a row there....

I think the powers that be will try their level best to put the SEC champ in the Peach Bowl regardless of who wins. If Ohio State wins (and face it, they should blow out Wisconsin worse than Clemson blows out Virginia!), they'll have the #1 spot but probably still go to the Fiesta Bowl... UNLESS #4 ends up being Utah - if that happens, maybe they put LSU #1 so they can justify sending Utah to Atlanta?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It helps fans that don't want to travel a great distance to see the game.

But if you think you're gonna save some $$$, think again ...

Dawg fans will drive the market price of tickets to absurd levels.
