Actually, for futurists, CRISPR is old hat.
It has massive potential - for good, and for abuse.
Entertainingly, it's actually going to end - or at least completely change - the racial argument, since when the tech mainlines people are going to be any old color they want to be, up to and including the color blue.
My best guess is that germline editing - meaning, permanent stuff you pass on to your offspring - is going to be quickly illegalized (though people like the Chinese are always going to cheat, one of them, apparently, already did), but somatic editing - meaning, alterations that effect only the subject - are probably going to become elective in the very near future.
Want more muscles? Gotcha. Wanna be striped like a tiger or zebra? We can do that. Want a tail? Dunno why you want that, but sure, we can do it. Want to be hung like a stallion charger? Yup. Here's some John Holmes DNA, now tell Bridgette to brace herself....
There's also plenty of legitimate medical applications too, like ridding oneself of inherited genetic conditions like Sickle-Cell or even some cancers.
