Harbaugh praised for Vatican & Dabo slammed for religious beliefs
May 9, 2017, 6:29 PM
|
|
Can someone explain why the Freedom from Religion Group doesn't see the Vatican\Pope meeting as being equal to Dabo's Christian faith? I'm in no way against Religion, first off. I'm just wondering why Dabo was publicly called out and Jim Harbaugh did a "good thing" by taking his players and Marty Smith of ESPN to meet the Pope without having the same occur?

I hope so because P Finebaum said other coaches are kicking themselves for not thinking of it 1st. No wonder. They saw what happened to Dabo

Agreed. Tired of hearing about them and what Harbaugh 's doing. Beat OSU 1 time and maybe he'll earn credibility.

As a Catholic and a Clemson Alumni I get tired of this kind of stuff. They met the Pope, probably for 10 minutes. I don't know whether I should be taking your post seriously or not but sometimes you guys act like Catholics don't exist in the South and especially not at Clemson.

I'm very tolerant and certainly promote religion as it relates to each individual. Whether it be Catholicism or Christianity. This is why I'm asking why there was backlash when Nuk Hopkins experienced baptismal with the help of Dabo whereas Marty and said Michigan players experienced their moment through the aid of Harbaugh and Pope. Seems a little hypocritical.

Well said bro. I have no problem with Catholics nor the Pope. My Mom was Catholic before she married my hillbilly Dad in SC. My cousins in NJ are Catholic. My only point is that historically the Catholic Church is anything but "liberal" and it is idiotic to pretend that the Catholic church is part of some "liberal" conspiracy. I personally am very encouraged that the Holy Father is beginning to take positions that are more Christlike- ie mercy, radical kindness and radical forgiveness. If that is "liberal" count me in, along with FDR, George Bailey and Jesus of Nazareth.

It took me 5 seconds to type "Freedom from religion foundation harbaugh" into Google and see that they have indeed issued multiple statements about what they see as Harbaugh's inappropriate behavior.

These so called Freedom of Religion folks are just nuts period. I hope Dabo shares Clemson's letter back to them with Michigan.
Our recruiting took off after these folks challenged Dabo and I believe parents wanted their kids with Dabo because he stood up for what he believed and the parents respected that.
I personally thought the trip by the team to Europe was a great idea to bring the team together and at their age and my age now I would have enjoyed it.
A trip like that would seem to bring the team together as teammates. I'm not a fan of the coach but I thought this trip was his best idea yet.

Does it truly matter that some atheists from Michigan have made a point of talking about Dabo Swinney's willingness to practice his faith with his team and staff ? I know I don't care , and saying that he got slammed over it seems a bit of a stretch . That was bottom column, back page nothingness to anyone willing to find it when it actually went down . Let people talk . It only matters when we chatter about it repeatedly , giving them the fuel to do more or attempt to rehash .
