HOW THE GAME WAS LOST! The 5th Down!

I posted this twice last night, but because game was on USA, I could not go back and make sure on USA.
https://youtu.be/0_L1jKG_iVI
1. Notre Dame ball on our 25 with 5:06 left in the second quarter. First down run for no gain. Tight end is called for a blindside block, personal foul, 15 yards. Referee says it is a 15 yard penalty and now second down. The TV says 1st and 25 after the play, not 2nd and 25 as it should have been. According to rules, 15 yards should be deducted but because play transpired, it is not a loss of down.
2. Book short pass to 23. He lost his helmet and two yards.
3. Book scrambles for 5 to the 37. It should be fourth down.
4. TV shows third down still. Book completes short pass to Tremble to set up 45-yard try, otherwise it would have been a 50+ try.
5. Field goal good.
We should have won in regulation.

Time is 43:43 on the video, right after Amari fumble.

If you accept the penalty, the down remains the same. So, first and 25.
I might be missing something in your explanation, but don't see where there was a fifth down?

When the ref said 2nd down after that blindside block penalty, he misspoke. That should be obvious. In fact, he corrected himself but it was hard to hear because the TV announcer was talking.
Are you saying there should have been a loss of down on that penalty?

Personal foul should be assessed at the end of the line of gain.

You even answered your own question...your words...”it is NOT a loss of down.”
Correct.

Yes, but assessed at the end of the run. It would have been second and ten had it not occurred and should have been 2nd and 25. If it was fumble that was taken back for a TD, would it have been negated the entire play and gave them 1st and 25?

You don’t lose yards and downs. I may be wrong on this as I am not an Official but I can only think of one penalty in which you lose yards and down: intentional grounding. All other penalties are of yards or downs, not both as your describing. They made the correct call. 15 yard penalty. Replay the down. Because as even you said, “you don’t lose a down.”

The penalty should be assessed at the end of the run like with every other personal foul. It is not have to be a loss of down because the play happened, they got zero yards, plus have to back up 15 more. If it WAS a loss of down, it would be 1st and 25. It was not, so 2nd and 25.

Sorry, early in AM. That made little sense. They cannot negate the entire play because of that personal foul.

Let’s look at this another way. Is it possible that you are mistaken?? thousands of people were there watching the game including our own team but yet you’re the only one saying there was a fifth down?
Again, I could be wrong but I can only think of one penalty where you lose yards and downs: intention grounding. All others, unless I am mistaken, are either lose of down OR yards but not both.

The only way that could’ve been second and 25 is if the personal foul was a dead ball foul after the play had finished. That was not the case. The penalty happened during the play

I was mistaken also. Illegal forward pass is another where you lose down and yards.
