Clemson Athletics taking unusual steps to dry out grass lots

The torrential downpours of the last two weeks have caused flooding all across the state of South Carolina, including severely damaging several of the grass lots used on game days in Clemson. What is the school doing to dry out the grass lots and replace the grass? Full Story »

You suggesting we make this place look like Willie Brice?

Very, Very Excited. Very, Very Proud.

It can't be done, impossible task bc there is no way anybody can take a turd of chit and turn it into mom's apple pie.

Did they turn off the irrigation?

Oct 14, 2015, 3:45 PM

That would help.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

they turned them on to mark sprinkler heads before dragging

Maybe if the coots weren't $150 million in debt, they

could do this.

AirTiger.

Unfortunately, the helicopter that played Airwolf passed away in a tragic crash while assisting folks as an air ambulance.

Why not borrow a couple of NASCAR Titan dryers

That might uproot the grass because it's so powerful and close to the ground.

Why not have the coot defense chip in, I hear they blow too.

Interesting that he mentions the 10am lot opening. Lots don't open after 8am for any game time. Don't know where the heck he got 10am.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Borrow a fews coots. They blow hot air all the time.

Oct 14, 2015, 5:28 PM

Just saying....

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

But there were already complaints aboout the lots smelling

Oct 15, 2015, 3:57 AM

like elephant pens from the manure that was spread a few weeks ago. Can you imagine what it would smell like after the coots left?

Think sewer plant. Mauldin Road at I-85 on a humid day or Hwy. 56 near Bush Field in Augusta just about any day of the year.

With all his success, his highest salary was $25,000 a year. The president of the university, Dr. R. F. Poole, feared that professors who earned less would be upset. "He called me up and said that he didn't want me to tell anybody what I made," Howard once said. "I said: 'Doc, you don't have to worry. I'm as ashamed as you are of what you pay me.' Lotsa fun, but probably not too effective.

I like your funny words magic man

I was there today and saw the chopper parked by the indoor

Oct 14, 2015, 10:00 PM

Practice facility. There was also a tractor pulling a dryer and one disking up one of the lots trying to dry the dirt up. I think with these warm days we should be fine by Game time.

I know Clemson is an engineering school, but is this likely to produce a real benefit? Isn't the soil pretty high in clay concentration and, therefore really dense and slow to dry?

The optics are terrible. Libs will have a field day with this. Considering we apologized for the dining hall event and turned that into a fiasco, I fully expect we will have to buy carbon credits from Al Gore for this one!

This is such a common practice that I suspect there are proven metrics to decide when it's necessary. Seen videos like this for drying baseball and futbol fields inside stadiums plenty of times.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

So exciting just one video wasn't enough. LOL

That is not going to do much good. It's still going to be wet right below the surface, unless they scraped some of it out first.

May work well on asphalt but not on mud.

They could've put that money towards stone (crush and run) at least in the worst places. Then pull the stone up at the end of the season and re-sod or plant.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Maybe the athletic department should purchase one of these...
