Before cable sports were huge, I remember watching JP ACC basketball all weekend. In the early 80’s I could have told you the starting lineup for every team.

First Clemson Coots football game I saw televised was in 1977. The Catch!

That game was carried by ABC on regional basis.***

Jim Thacker and Billy Packer on JP in the 1970s with a Wednesday night game and a doubleheader on Saturday with Bones McKinney doing the other game. Times were simpler and you had to listen to Jim Phillips on the radio because Clemson was hardly ever on.

There was a great segment on Sirius ACC Central this am

Mark Packer and Wes Durham had Billy Packer on, and he was telling some great stories about the 60's and 70's and the early days of televising of ACC basketball, going all the way back to CD Chessley, who started it all by broadcasting the 1957 national championship four overtime game between UNC and Kansas.

Also had a hilarious story about Bones McKinney making fun of Frank McGuire after finally beating him at Chapel Hill.

Pack and Wes play it every weekday morning at 8 on their ACC Central show on Sirius. Great show.
