I know everyone in college football, except the people in charge apparently, think the rule is terrible in its application. This article has some good ideas.

I think the rule itself is great, but I definitely think some of the calls are bogus or weak.

There needs to be a built-in mitigation for lack of malice

as we see too many cases of incidental contact or contact initiated or caused by the offensive player.

For example, this play with Stephone Anthony and Dylan Thompson in 2014. It caused Anthony to miss the second half of his last game ever at Clemson is ridiculous:

Sounds like a reasonable adjustment to the rule. Of course 'bamer would never be penalized anything other than the un-intentional. sigh.
