Wow, disgraceful when even Texas Tech is 25th and we aren’t on the radar..
but amazing part is how little poor Clemson is getting a bigger bang for the buck with DaBO & Crew winning & winning & winning!

You have to take any of these rankings with a grade of slaw.

It is so hard to quantify any of the specifics used in these surveys.

Really just makes it embarrassing how poorly we’ve performed.
The added money has definitely helped in non revenue sports but hasn’t helped in football which is what drives the revenue.

I think a lot of that comes from conference money

The SEC still rules the conference board in terms of total revenue, whether just football or among all programs. I think that has factored in significantly to Forbes' numbers. This would explain SC being in the top 20 but us being out.
But other than that - that's the only Top 20 that is remotely good that SC will see themselves in this year. It really means nothing. Texas has sucked the last few years but still been atop that list.
Who cares.

We’ve played and won against #’s 1, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, in the last several years. What’s that worth? We’d win against #2 Texas & #3 Michigan too, but as Korncoot pointed out yesterday, we can’t afford to put anymore cupcakes on our OOC schedule.

Why "profit" isn't important
Sep 12, 2018, 10:03 AM
|
|
The list is about profit. Where does the profit go, it sure isn't stockholders and isn't going to the football program that earned the profit. More important is this statement: "Alabama actually ranks just 10th in team profit, since no other program comes close to matching the Crimson Tide in spending: Alabama football spends an average $68 million per year, a staggering 22% more than any other team in the nation." Another key statement is: "A tremendous portion of those earnings goes toward supporting non-revenue sports like softball and swimming, which helps explain why even some of the nation's biggest athletic departments can still struggle to break even." So Clemson's lower profit may be an explanation for why Clemson always loses the Palmetto Cup but I would prefer that Clemson's football "profit" be spent on football.

it’s competitive sports. The goal is winning.
They should rretask the Heisman committee and at the end of every season they should give a trophy to the richest loser.

Biggest factor - TV revenue
Sep 12, 2018, 11:02 AM
|

Check the rankings - they comprise of the SEC and the Big 10 along with a few others.
SEC has its own network - as does Big 10. so does Texas and ND has its own contract.
when the ACC network gets up and running - the gap will close for sure. Check this list in two years or so.
Clearly - the ACC having smaller schools (thus smaller alumni bases) that focus on academics also affects the list. Schools that have 30,40, 50 k students - will have huge fan bases built in - and thus more money.
IPTAY and private contribution money is not included in the list.
It's all good - Clemson is doing just fine.
