Gas furnace creeping up in age

Its 21 yrs+. Went out yesterday due to the fan in the inducer motor being completely rusted out. It was also noted that the igniter is close to needing a replacement and the control board is overheating. He also found that the gas connects to the furnace via a flexible hose and not DIP.
We did not receive a quote to replace the inducer motor as he did not have a price, but the cost to replace the flexible hose and igniter is $500. Therefore we still have the cost to replace the control board and the inducer motor assembly. Our insulation for the ductwork is also R5 while R8 is the standard nowadays apparently. Our ductwork is also aging and doesnt heat/cool the house evenly.
Being that the furnace is 21+ years old...

Replace the furnace. Average life expectancy is 20 years. You're at that.
Don't do the ductwork. R-5 to R-8 doesn't mean #### when the air is moving 500-800 feet per minute. The only difference it will make is the hot air will be slightly less hot between cycles in the summer.

New furnace with ac is going to cost $11k for a decent brand/install.
The repair is going to cost $1300 or more and that is if nothing else is wrong with it.
Replace it.
Don't redo the ductwork as it will never pay off.
If you think it is leaking significantly, then get a quote to reseal the joints.
