GT was the king of football in Georgia for decades. What

Jun 3, 2015, 9:06 AM

happened to make them second fiddle to UGA? What mistakes can Clemson avoid to remain the top program in the state of SC?

GaTech's downfall came when they left the SEC to become independent. Thank goodness those who wanted Clemson to follow the same path didn't prevail.

Very interesting read. They can get the teams going again, but with that right coach and assistants that would love that school aand stand behind it. The school also has to hand a President, BOT, AD that supports the school 110%. To never settle for less

It's simple...they joined the ACC

That would do it. Thanks Swoff. ;)

Don't think that is so..went down as an independent, then

Top program in SC? What, this year? Charleston Southern has

'Bama on their schedule this season.

Maybe next season?

Georgia has a much bigger fanbase, much more

Jun 3, 2015, 9:37 AM

passionate fanbase, more $$$$, and it's THE big school in Georgia. If you are a big time player in Georgia and you want to stay in state to play CFB, that's the first place you look.

The landscape of CFB changed when it started to become commercialized. The era in which GT dominated CFB is completely irrelevant now. Heck, Army was a powerhouse around the same time.

How might this relate to our small alumni base, $ pot, etc.

at Clemson when compared to USuC? It might not, but it is worth pondering for our sake.

I think our fans are more passionate about Clemson and

Jun 3, 2015, 10:01 AM

about Clemson athletics than GT fans are. While it's certainly not a negative thing, many GT students are just there for the education, i think they have quite a few foreign students, and when you look at those segments of the population, they just don't care as much about sports.

I also think we have a decent contingent of Clemson fans that did not attend Clemson, and i would venture to guess that it's significantly more than GT can claim.

When Clemson fans start to lose passion for the university and the football program I'll really start to worry.

Simple, SEC vs ACC.

That is not correct.***

correct me if I am wrong, but they whipped the dawgs in athens last year. But to answer your question, they have not gotten the same caliber of athletes as of late. Paul Johnson and 3 years of probation will do that to a program.
