Front Page Story: Tigers used to being underdogs against FSU

Tigers used to being underdogs against FSU

The defending ACC champs have won six of the last nine games against Florida St., but once again find themselves the underdogs against FSU. In other words, it's business as usual. Full Story »

Fact check: Clemson was also favored over FSU in 2011.

Last season, FSU opened as a 3-pt favorite but became a 2-point underdog when people actually put money on it.

For the last 4 years, the favorite has won. Hope we buck that recent trend.

WOW!! There's nobody anywhere saying that Clemson is gonna win this game, except Clemson nation. I guess we're on our own.

How many times have we been on our own. And if we win, those that are saying we can't, will say we got lucky. When we start winning the way we did in the 80s, no one is going to give us respect.

We had respect in the 80's because we earned it and deserved it in all 3 phases of the game.

So, I never comment on T-net bc ppl dont like hearing the truth about our beloved Tigers. But if they don't figure out things on D it could be a long day maybe even a broken scoreboard according to certain folks. Having said that, I hope its Shock the World Tour 2 in Tallahasee this Saturday! The offense is going to put up points bank that.

whats going to happen on the field is AN IDIOT!!!!

The point spreads are set so that half the people will gamble on each side so the bookies dont lose and they make money on the vig. Apparently the bookies think as the media thinks on this issue, that the bettors will lean heavily with FSU so they have to skew the line a great deal to one side to entice bettors to take Clemson.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Good for them. Has nothing to do with the game***

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Spread not indicative? Then why do favorites USUALLY win?

Sep 18, 2012, 12:31 PM [ in reply to Again, anybody who thinks a point spread is indicative of ]

Although the bookmakers set the original point spread to achieve a 50-50 bet allocation, the spread constantly adjusts to the actual betting so that it remains 50-50. Hence the spread is the collective wisdom of thousands of people who are willing to put their money where their mouths are.

Although point spreads obviously aren't ALWAYS right, over larger sample sizes, numerous studies have shown that whether you pick the favorite or the underdog you'll be right 50% of the time against the spread. So point spreads certainly are indicative.

Of course upsets happen, and that's what we're all hoping for.
