Reading between the lines a little bit, I think this article might partly explain why this year's football schedule hasn't been released yet. Notice this article repeatedly said "when Pitt and Syracuse join the league" but never said when that was. I suspect they're waiting to see what happens between WVU and the Big East; if WVU is let go to play in the Big 12 this year, Pitt and Cuse will probably follow suit. Who knows when that will actually happen, though.

I have a feeling the football schedule will come out later than usual because of the uncertainty surrounding Pitt and Cuse; but there's probably a drop-dead date somewhere in there, somewhere around the end of February. We'll see.

It didn't come out last year until 2/14.***

B12 for next year or 2013 then it's highly likely that the time table speeds up for everyone. I think this is big reason for the 9 game format in Football. They can now release an 8 game schedule but if we go to 9 this fall or next the teams can adjust better by dropping a non- conf and picking up Pitt of Syr. Look for open dates and non-conf games to be spread out more this year within the conference to allow room for that very real possibility.

The schedule came out on February 14 last year. This isn't later than usual.

Good point. I guess it just feels later than usual.

Haha so Atlantic teams are close to the ocean but "Coast"al is away from the ocean...?!?!? :) j/k

Yes we are Atlantic. Scroll down here to see the breakdown http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atlantic_Coast_Conference

Except Miami is in Coastal and other than BC ...

Feb 3, 2012, 5:36 PM [ in reply to I think Atlantic ]

... you can't get much closer to the ocean.

I'm still OK with our conference division names, heck of a lot better than Leaders and Legends.

How much will this cost us in buyouts?

Feb 3, 2012, 2:10 PM

we've got 4 OOC games in both 2013 and 2014 or is this just going to kill the UGA series? I think the SEC is talking about a 9 game schedule as well.

GA games will be dead with this***

What happens when we to to #15 & #16 in the future?

Feb 3, 2012, 2:20 PM

So far these outlines look quite logical (AMAZING for ACC), but at the point where we get UCONN or PSU or whoever it turns out to be? A big ole mess will follow and I see the "4 POD" concept utilized in some fashion.

Re: What happens when we to to #15 & #16 in the future?

Feb 4, 2012, 9:50 PM

Then you have 2 eight team divisions with a championship game. The conference champion is then automatically in the playoffs. I'm still trying to understand how you win a national championship without winning a conference championship. Viva la BCS.

Feb 3, 2012, 2:27 PM

Hello to higher football ticket prices with inferior talent than some teams we have played. Does this shake up the existing non conference teams we play? I believe it will.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Good. One less cupcake game. Hopefully.

Feb 3, 2012, 2:29 PM

Now we will hopefully have...
9 conference games
Coot game
1 BCS conf. OOC game
And one Cupcake.

badge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That's my take. In-state cupcake stays.***

I don't think so. One less Allbarn or UGAy.

We'll still play a Furman and a LA Tech.

Bring Back Wrestling at Clemson.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Home/away will be unbalanced now ...

Feb 3, 2012, 5:39 PM

One year you are 4/5 home/away and the next year you are 5/4 home/away.

Some years could turn out brutal. Hopefully we will keep GT and FSU never being both away.

Re: Front Page Story: ACC Announces Future Regular-Season Scheduling Formats

Feb 3, 2012, 6:34 PM

This stinks. This probably means we play USC and two cupcakes. No room for games with Auburn and Georgia. I guess they would probably be dead because of SEC expansion anyway. Still, I will miss these opportunities to test ourselves more often against the SEC.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Agreed. Bad Move. Scheduling a decent BCS Team is unlikely.

Feb 3, 2012, 10:04 PM

I would've liked to see some BIG, Big12, Pac12 matchups too. That series with Texas A&M was great and I think a home/away series with teams like Penn State or Arizona State would've been just as good.

Now? Not a chance.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Great.

Feb 4, 2012, 10:28 PM

We just dumped some interesting OOC series with Georgia, Ole Miss, and Oklahoma State for another ACC game against a team we don't give a #### about for a schedule that will for the most part consist of 3 games we give a #### about (FSU, GT, South Carolina) an in state FCS game, a cupcake buy a win game and seven conference games we don't care about.

Not only that, but instead of at least being able to point towards the additional exposure we would get playing Pitt every year we get both of the far north schools in areas that do not produce enough recruiting talent to fill a thimble.

Whenever anybody asks you why the ACC struggles in football just point to this asinine decision.
