Fox is in a bit of a bind

Nov 5, 2020, 1:06 PM

Nevada is now callable, which means if Fox (which has already called Arizona) goes ahead and calls Nevada, then that will be 270 for Biden and Fox will be the first ones to deliver the bad news to Trump.

I'm watching NBC. They haven't even called Arizona yet***

you are correct...

I imagine that Arizona is probably right to be called. Historically, FOX has been the first to call states over the years, and they are usually correct. I'm hoping they are wrong, but if FOX calls a state, they are pretty confident.

Last evening/early afternoon - I was watching Brett and Martha asking questions of Fox's "Decision Desk head - Mishkin. Martha doing what she can to provide hope for Fox viewers like my father in law.

Below is a high level summary:

Martha: With Arizona yet to tabulate all results from X county, are you going to reverse your call on Arizona for now?

Mishkin: No.

Martha: Well, you made the call with 1% of the vote in last night.

Mishkin (a bit incredulous): Where did you get that 1% number? We called it at 11:25pm with 85% (maybe he said 75%). We called it knowing these factors. We are VERY confident in our call.

Martha: What about Wisconsin?

Mishkin: Nope

Martha: What about Michigan?

Mishkin: Nope

Then they brought a lawyer/professor on that pretty much said the legal challenges wont help.

Martha tried, bless her heart.

How do you know it's callable?***

Falsehood flies, and truth comes limping after it, so that when men come to be undeceived, it is too late; the jest is over, and the tale hath had its effect: like a man, who hath thought of a good repartee when the discourse is changed, or the company parted; or like a physician, who hath found out an infallible medicine, after the patient is dead.

The guys at 538 said that they thought that the numbers and the trends made a strong case for calling Nevada for Biden. That was this afternoon.

However, Arizona is expected to release some new numbers any minute now that might change that picture - or bring it into greater relief.
