For those of you in Charlotte is the field

Dec 1, 2018, 10:18 AM

covered? There is a big slog of rain coming that will turn that playing surface into a pig pen. All that will do is equalize the talent.

Or the traction an athletic D Line can get on their push. Pitts not cut blocking like Tech in the rain last year.

They have a state of the art drainage system.

There's something in these hills.

Many professional and some colleges have installed a PAT (Prescription Athletic Turf) field. The field is actually built like a green on a golf course with drainage lines installed in the base grade of the field (approx. every 20' on center), a layer of pea gravel (approx. 4"), on top and then approx. 12" of a sand/organic (i.e Peatmoss) soil mixture. Some use a Sub-Air type pump system that sucks the water out of the porous soil. The suction pumps are connected to the drain lines (usually 4" corrugated perforated plastic pipe). I'm not sure if BOA Stadium has the pumps or not, but probably everything else.

Yeah that article was kind of vague. I was hoping to read those three magic words - sub air system.

It's just drizzling. Charlotte is only getting about a quarter inch of rain all day. The field will be fine.

In the past the Panthers have had problems with their field. Has it been better with the new owner?

Quarter inch? We are 200 miles west and the ground is completely saturated.

You don’t sit in your seat 8 hours before the game?
