Football gods

The gods giveth and the gods taketh away.
There was a day when our banner flew high and victory was often ours.
The wind changed, the golden goose was melted down, and false messiahs led us through twenty years of wandering through the wilderness. Those were hard years, Bowdenesque years.
Then a true messiah was revealed, lowly though his appointment. In spite of the shouts of negativity and disassociation, he was able to lead us back to the promised land. Long may he live and lead.
My friends, inevitably, perhaps in a time far-removed, we will find ourselves again in the wasteland. When the football gods will it, so it will come: ebb and flow, rise and set, wax and wane. It is the nature of things.
Enjoy success, rejoice in the vanquishing of our foes, delight in the vindication of the righteous and the fall of the wicked. But do so kindly and with grace.
There will be a time when those who are now trodden down will be raised up. How will they treat with us then? Will they remember our beneficence or our malignity? And will they reflect our insinuations and vulgarities? Will they treat us decently or return venom for venom? Every moment spent in criticism of others is a moment not spent in praise of the Tigers.
And it does not matter that they continue to spit vicious and intemperate lies while we shine! They do not perceive that "best is the standard." We are the champions, my friends. Let's act like champions.
Fight, Tigers, Fight, Tigers, Fight, Fight.

AT that's a terrific post. We are all blessed to be Clemson Tigers...not because of our teams or success, but because of our tradition and honor. I still have a car sticker that says "A Clemson man needs no introduction."
Probably considered sexist today, but the message is the same...we are passionate, competitive, loyal and honorable.
I'm more proud to be associated with this institution than any time in my 60+ years on earth...
