Why couldn't the season have ended after that game?

Man it was good to be a Tiger for a while.
Obviously it's still good to be a Clemson Tiger for the other reasons... but strictly speaking as being associated with the football team... that was my favorite week in a long time.

Branch sat behind Bowers and Sapp. Two NFL guys
Apr 18, 2012, 9:16 PM
|
|
He sat behind a veteran Ricky Sapp, and the former #1 high school player in Bowers early in his career.
Once Ricky moved on, Branch became a two year starter, and was very successful both years.
Not sure where the one year wonder comment comes from.
Also, Branch will an outside OLB in a 3-4 next season, not a DE.

I just don't think he has the skills to play OLB.... his future is to put on 15-20 lbs and play DE in a 4-3

One year wonder? Chasing the money? Where was he earlier in his career? Sounds like this guy doesnt have much info so hes just saying anything that comes to mind, and in effect it sounds like hes trashing Branch. Fact is Branch worked hard to get where he is today. He is the type of player who got better every year and pushed all the 5star talent ahead of him for playing time. Branch was one of the less touted guys coming into clemson, but he left a complete bad ###, and was prob clemsons biggest difference maker on defense last year. I have to be honest, I never thought Branch would even be a starter at clemson, but he happily he proved me wrong. I dont know exactly what pro scouts consider "first round talent", but i know this guy put in his time, would not be denied, and turned out to be a heckuva player at Clemson.

With all due respects, I believe he is another victim of the lack of effective player-development that is a chronic problem at Clemson, and has been for years. And it all starts in the weight room. Our program there is pathetic. Someone the other day was complaining about our inability to recruit top offensive linemen. Last year, we got the number eighth ranked offensive lineman in the country. Alabama and Auburn had been been in a tooth and nail fight for him. Somehow. they ticked hin off and he fell into our lap. He weighed 250 lb. coming and by his own statement, 20 lbs. over his effective playing weight. After a year in Clemsons's "player development" program. he now weighs 270, 40 lbs above his effective playing weight. This is not an attack on Spenser Region, whom I'm sure is a fine young man. It is an indictment of our lack of leadership and discipline on the part of the coaching staff. How could the offensive line coach permit this to go on? The offensive coorinator, the head coach?? Who is accountable? Coach Swinney seems so close-minded and defensive regarding our strength program that he's gets to be part of the problem. "The emporer has no clothes." Back in the day, Clemson took announced pride in being the physically strongest team in the ACC, and one of the top strongest teams in the country. That's hopw we beat Nebraska for the national championship. The only coach that seems to get it is Brent Venables, but I'm sure he has to mince his words, given Dabo's utter bull-headedness (lack of insight) regarding the whole subject. God bless, coach Batson, but give him a dignified administative job, and and get a youg hard-ass in there who is wiling to " kick and take names." Otherwise, look for more of the same. Boar Hog
