Option play
Look to establish run

Galmann dive/DW4 counter/Scott Screen

Not what we always call.... but what would you call?

Or is that it?

Quick screen to renfrow outside...

Posted: Jan 9, 2017 2:15 PM

Go ahead and remind them they have to play sideline to sideline. Hunter will get a few yards

WHy I call this...

Posted: Jan 9, 2017 2:21 PM

In addition to sideline to sideline, it gives DW a basic pass, WR a basic block and another WR a basic catch, OL basic short term protection to get a feel for front 4...

Bama will be disciplined on play one: Do not throw over the middle on first play as they will be home. Do not run up middle or zone read b/c they will be disciplined and it will be little to no gain. Quick pass gives a shot for 2-8 yards.

Re: WHy I call this...

Posted: Jan 9, 2017 2:24 PM

I see your point....but I think if they are being disciplined is just as likely we lose yards on a sideline / screen pass.

I want to threaten them.....attack... I want to go at them....not sit back and hope they miss.

But granted.....if my aggression leads to an int off the bat then..... OOOOPS!

jumbo power eye, with Gallman as the tailback.

Posted: Jan 6, 2017 6:00 PM

we've run jumbo maybe a half-dozen times this season. Maybe the coaches just don't think we're very good at it. But I'd love to see us doing something off beat and unexpected. Maybe even run a package out of the wishbone at some point.

Re: jumbo power eye, with Gallman as the tailback.

I think we see some twist from the jumbo package.

Motion Gallman into a 5 wide look

Run counter with DW4. Get him lathered up early.

Re: Motion Gallman into a 5 wide look

Posted: Jan 6, 2017 2:10 PM

That's kinda what I'm seeing....except to fake the Dw4 run and pass over middle..... think the defense will be keying early on the QB run and we like to run out of that look.

Are the other receivers just standing there?

Posted: Jan 6, 2017 2:08 PM

Seems like a pretty bad play call.

Lol.... that's the route (for the 5) I'm hitting....

I think the goal will be to get the offense settled in a

Posted: Jan 6, 2017 2:12 PM

little bit and there will be an emphasis on at least getting a first down or two to start the game. I don't think the coaches want to get overly aggressive on the first few plays and end up with a 3 and out.

Also, a hand off to Gallman on the first play of the game is likely to leave you at 2nd and 9 so I'm not sure that's the play either. We will look to get the running game going for sure and Gallman will get his touches even if he's averaging 2-3 ypg, but i don't know if we start the game by just handing it off to him.

Watson run or a fairly safe pass seem pretty likely to me. It could be something to Leggett or a screen out to Scott. Bama is probably going to start the game with their safeties deep to protect against the deep balls to Williams and Cain. They will do that until we force them up.

Re: I think the goal will be to get the offense settled in a

Posted: Jan 6, 2017 2:14 PM

Exactly....which leaves short middle as the place to attack. :)

However, if you gave it to Gallman up the middle with a FB..

Posted: Jan 6, 2017 5:54 PM

...leading him with Leggett taking out the outside LB, and he picked up 8 yards, Clemson is sitting at 2nd and 2 from their 40 yard line, I like the message that sends to the Bama D-line.

If we can pull off 8 yards with WG up the middle on the first play then my score prediction of 27-17 is way to low!

You folks are making this WAY too complicated. If Clemson has the ball, I'd call a touchdown. If Clemson is on D, I'd call a turnover. What the heck is wrong with you people?

Hand off to Gallman who runs to the short side of the field.

Play action pass to Deon Cain

Fake the handoff to Gallman up the middle and send Cain to the end zone for the score.

Re: First play from scrimmage you would call

Although I'm fairly certain it will be a Gallman run up the middle.

and has worked his defense overtime on it.

I also think Bama will be coming after us as hard as they can early,

so I'd throw some sort of misdirection at them -

just not slow developing or behind the LOS.

Go basic, roll out to move the pocket, throw a stick or sit-down curl.

Give them the same look the next play the other side.

Then introduce them to Deon Cain on a streak.

Do it twice if the first time doesn't work.

Push them long all game - make them play the whole field.

Bama's faster than last year, but they aren't as fast as Deon or Ray Ray...

Re: methinks Saban has seen a few TE throws from us

Posted: Jan 6, 2017 10:59 PM

I like that....I'm just thinking they will be attacking the edges and playing two deep safeties which should mean the middle of the field just beyond their LB's (who will be crashing the LOS) will be open.

Re: methinks Saban has seen a few TE throws from us

Almost game day! Saw DW4 in an interview make a statement about applying pressure and being aggressive.

Wonder if we take a shot down field now.

Wilkins lined up beside Watson in shotgun

Wilkins actually gets snap and throws to Watson on a wheel route for a TD. They'll never see it coming.

Watson and Gallman in the back field offset. Scott in motion into the back field behind gallman fake up the middle fake to scott around the end Mike Williams over the top. If its not there watson tuck and run.

Something very basic to let the O settle in for a sec.

Watson run
Pass to Leggett possibly
Gallman run
Screen pass

I wouldn't do anything extreme.

I'm hoping it's not a run...seems to predictable for us.

Play action, fake to Gallman up the middle. Throw bomb to Williams or Cain on either sideline or Renfrow behind the backers.

That will establish the run.

The fact that someone would give TD over tree OP is ridiculous

Short to mid-range pass

Posted: Jan 8, 2017 9:54 PM

Not behind LOS and not Deep. Something that gets an open receiver the ball and puts the D off balance. They will stuff a run on first play then start out one step ahead. A safe pass puts us a step ahead in the chess match.

Re: Short to mid-range pass

Posted: Jan 9, 2017 2:02 PM

That's what I'm thinking.... something about 10 yards over the middle ...down the seam.

We will almost certainly run Gallman up the middle

Posted: Jan 8, 2017 10:17 PM

as we almost always do on our first offensive play. I would do a play action pass at least 20 yards down the field. Show them we are here to play.

Re: We will almost certainly run Gallman up the middle

Judge,

That's my concern. Actually I think the first play well tell us a lot. If we run WG up the middle it will seem more like trying to play it safe, little risk, and honestly it would feel like conceding an early 3 and out.

However, if we come out with misdirection.... fake the run....hit a pass beyond 5 yards down field....I believe it means we game planned to take it to them and put them on their heels from the word GO!
