Final INT against OSU

Jan 1, 2020, 3:28 PM

Was watching the replay of the final INT and was wondering if the receiver didn't go the wrong way, would it be a TD or still Smith could have intercepted it?

They ran the same play and got a TD on 4th and 2 and this time, it seems like Chad smith was better prepared.

I think even if it's not an INT, smith would have broken up the pass. That would have been the most likely outcome. Thoughts?

I guarantee Smith would not have intercepted it

Turner perhaps

The receiver was supposed to run a post but when the QB started to scramble, the receiver, just like he is coached to do, switched to the secondary route, but Fields still threw to the post. Just a case of miscommunication.

Fields never really scrambled on the play though. He just hops a couple of times in the pocket. If Olave continues to run his original route, there’s a lot of space to work with and at best it’s a break up. If Fields holds a second longer and Olave makes a clean cut to his secondary route, there’s a lot of space in that corner of that end zone as well.

Noland just followed the QB’s eyes and caught the ball.

Turner, not Smith and I think there is a good probability the pass would have been completed had the receiver finished the post route and not broken off. But we will never know and it really doesn't matter.

Turner had a bad night with angles, coverage and we were fortunate that fields rushed his throw. Turner was beaten again on the post.

You're the won who's lost on the 'post'... Turner won his.***

How exactly was he “beaten again”? Worse case scenario it would have been a 50/50 ball with him and the receiver if the receiver ran the correct route! Not sure how you can be in any better position than he was on this one.

Best case scenario it would have been 50/50 ball

Nolan was actually in a good spot and that ball had a lot of air under it.

I am glad it dint come down to a 50/50 or incomplete pass.
