Fake Tickets for the Auburn Game!

Sep 11, 2017, 10:36 AM

A group of four people (same ones) walked in front of my seat about times at the Auburn game (Section S). The 4th time I asked them if I could help them find their seats, so they gave me one ticket and it had the correct section on it (S) and correct row but the seat number was Seat 21. All of the seats in section S are even numbered. I told them I had no idea where those tickets could be, but they were not in our section and told him to take them to one of the stadium personnel. If they were fake, as I suspect, I wonder how the bar code worked!

Are you sure they didn't have upper deck seats?

the game. A couple from California had bought 2 from a scalper. They were told the barcode was too long and would not scan. The scanners sent them to the IPTAY office. I looked at the tickets. They looked like my ticket, but they were printed on non-glossy paper. And, the barcode was a little bit longer than the one on my ticket.

Don't know how things worked out for them, as they were behind me in line.

How do you know these guys weren't the thieves?

Sep 11, 2017, 10:51 AM

They could have sold their tickets on Stubhub and then still tried to go to the game.

As you go up the rows the even numbered seats are on the left and odd are on the right. Those may have been on the other side of the aisle in your section.

Sep 11, 2017, 10:52 AM

You do realize that if you walk down the aisle, the seats to the right side of the aisle are even numbered and the seats to the left side of the aisle are odd numbered.

Re: All of the seats in section S are even numbered?

This! It depends on what side of the section you are on. One side is numbered odd while the other is even.

Re: All of the seats in section S are even numbered?

Sep 11, 2017, 11:20 AM

Maybe I am mistaken, but as I walk toward the field down from the "S" portal, the section on the right is "S" and are even numbered seats (sure of this because my seats are there). I thought the left side of the aisle was Section "R" with odd numbered seats. Maybe that is still section "S" with the odd numbered seats. I do know that these ticket holders walked all the way down my row to section "T" without finding their seats (at least 4 timers)!

Take a look at the seating chart. The stairs go down the middle of a section. Port is odd and starboard is even!

I'm fairly certain if the tickets passed the scanners at the gate then they were genuine. The way my section works is that even seat numbers are on one side of the isle stairs with odd numbers being on the other side the isle stairs.

Saw police escort two fans out of Section G or H

Sep 11, 2017, 11:06 AM

Early in the first quarter I saw two police officers go down from the portal, maybe to about 15th row, and approximately in Section G or H, and escort out two Auburn fans. It looked to me like the Auburn guys, or at least one of them, was arguing with the officer and pointing to his ticket. Wonder if those were fake, but good enough to get them into the game? It also seemed that there were two other fans waiting behind the officers, possibly to take those seats. Anyone see that or know what happened?

It happens just about everywhere. I know people in the ticket department at Georgia Tech and it happens there every home game. The area around the Varsity Drive-in is notorious for counterfeit tickets!

Found a great deal on tix for Auburn

Sep 11, 2017, 2:57 PM [ in reply to Re: Fake Tickets for the Auburn Game! ]

My buddy was burned two years ago for FSU - almost twice. The first time he bought electronic printed tickets downtown, for about $150 each lower on the home side. I could have suggested that was a "too good to be true" price. He got them scanned before entering and found out he was scammed. He tried to buy more tickets from another guy, who appeared to be a Clemson season ticket holder. He made this guy go to the gate and get the tickets scanned - and they were also fake. (The guy acted like he had also been scammed.) My buddy eventually got real tickets and got into the game.

We figured we would never buy scalped tickets at the game again. This game another friend was offered two lower deck tickets near the 40 in the front row for $125 each at about 4:30. The tickets were the pre-printed type, but they looked different, so we were very skeptical. The guys were also admittedly scalpers and had no affiliation with Clemson, but *they* suggested going to the gate to have the tickets checked. (Note, you can't do this until the gates open.) My buddy did so and the tickets were confirmed to be legit (the difference in appearance is because they were Auburn will-call tix.) My buddy got in and all was fine. I would have not spent any time (especially because I was sort-of burned at the Natty - another long story), but he managed to find a diamond in the rough.

So true

Sep 11, 2017, 3:36 PM [ in reply to Re: Fake Tickets for the Auburn Game! ]

And this goes way, way back, decades, so it's certainly no news to us old ticket pros. Actually had one offer me a ticket for 80 on Sat, and I saw thru it immediately and said, "That's awfully LOW for what the asking price is out here." He got offended and ran off. Knowing he had a fake, he was probably at that point willing to get rid of it, since it was getting closer to game time.

Re: Fake Tickets for the Auburn Game!

Sep 12, 2017, 8:55 AM

Hi all, thanks for the add to the group. I didn't mean to write an essay, but I just wanted to share my unfortunate experience this past weekend in Clemson.

I am an Auburn grad living in Asheville, NC. I took my son to Death Valley when we played back in 2011 and was treated very well and was looking forward to a return this weekend with my family of 4. We also had a large contingent of AU fans that made the trip and stayed with us at Lake Keowee.

I didn't want to pay $300 a ticket, so I waited for the prices to drop closer to game day while searching stubhub, ebay, craigslist, etc. I made arrangements to drive down Friday evening after work to meet a guy with 6 lowers in section D, only to have the guy stand me up. Not cool. I kept searching for tickets and connected with a guy Sat morning through CL who had 4 tickets together in section N. He claimed to be from Greenville and met me at the Ingles in Seneca. He had on full Clemson gear and we talked about how the CU schedule was downhill if you could get past AU.

Fast forward to kick off after my tickets were scanned successfully at the gate and we tried to find our seats. Odd numbers on one side, even on the other I was told. Mine were numbered 5-8, so now I just think that they are not all together and that we will be sitting 2 and 2. I went to seats 5 and 7 and someone had tickets identical to mine. The guy suggested that I talk to an usher. The usher sent me to gate 9 where some sort of official looked at them. At first, he said they were legit, but then noticed something else and said they were fake. He said we were in the stadium and he wasn't going to kick us out, so we went back and stood with 4 or 5 others in the section N portal. The usher that I had talked to previously told us that we could not stand there because of a fire code. I politely told him that we would move when the other 5 people moved. He tried to get them to move, but no one was really paying him any attention. He then told me and my family that he was calling his supervisor and that if we didn't leave, he would be calling the police to have us escorted out of the stadium. At this point, my youngest son is about in tears.

Finally, a young woman showed up to help sort out the situation. I wish I could remember her name because she was truly upset that my family was having to deal with this and told us that she wanted to help make our experience at Clemson a positive one. She offered to try and find us vacated seats after halftime, but explained that we may have to move again if someone came back to the seats. Another option was to stand in the endzone behind a white line which is what we did. We got there just before halftime, and stayed for part of the halftime show before my wife and kids decided to call it a night. Needless to say, things did not quite go as planned.

I took the wife and kids back to the house and came back to lot 10 to pick up the rest of our crew.
Another bad mistake! 2 hours just to get out of the parking lot is not acceptable. How do you not have someone directing traffic out of the lots? No one would let anyone out onto Williamson or Perimeter Rd. Hopefully this was a result of the reduced number of police due to the hurricane.

I still had the phone number of the guy that sold me fake tickets and reached out Sunday morning. He claimed that they weren't fake. I asked him where he got them and he stated that they came from a co-worker. I told him that I hoped he was telling the truth because I was going to report the incident to the Clemson PD. I reported the incident online and was supposed to receive some sort of email confirmation from the Clemson PD, but I never received anything. Doubt they will pursue it, but I just wanted to try and prevent someone else from getting screwed.

I know that the 2 guys that screwed me over are not representative of the majority of Clemson fans and that these things happen everywhere. I just saw this post and wanted to let as many people as possible know to beware of these crooks. Good luck on the rest of your season!

Re: Fake Tickets for the Auburn Game!

Sep 12, 2017, 9:14 AM

I hate that happened to you, as most Clemson fans take a lot of pride in being good hosts and making sure opposing fans enjoy themselves. You may probably want to move on, but if I were in your shoes I would swear out a warrant on the guy that sold them to you. The fact that he got them from a co-worker is his problem and he needs to recover money from them, that is his problem too! I doubt if he is telling the truth or he would have offered to refund your money. If nothing else, I would pursue it just based on principal.

Hope you get to see your Tigers play again this season and best of luck the rest of the way.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Sorry about your experience and thanks for the warning

Sep 12, 2017, 10:47 AM [ in reply to Re: Fake Tickets for the Auburn Game! ]

I am also sorry for your experience and echo TigerLink's view that we go out of our way to try to make the visitor experience better than any other school. Just a few other thoughts.

First, when you said you didn't want to pay $300 per ticket, I assume you mean for lower level, as upper deck tickets were well under $200 during the week, even on Stubhub with the fees. Second, thanks for not attributing the actions of these few to the rest of the Clemson community, but from what you wrote, it sounds like the usher was treating your family differently from other standing patrons, which is not right. Third, I agree you should take action against the guy who sold you the tickets. Fourth, we all wish that it was easier to leave after the game, but even if there had been more police, Clemson is a relatively small town with limited roads for exit. It has always taken a long time and probably always will.

For the list, what is the point of these bar codes if they don't seem to prevent fake tickets from entry? I was a beneficiary of this apparent gap at the Natty, so I've been curious for a while. (I bought a scalped ticket but had said I wouldn't pay unless my son was able to get into the gate. He did, but then found the seat taken by a Bama fan who had been a victim of theft and reported the theft and received a replacement ticket.)

Last year we attended the Auburn game and I thought the fans were amazing. Many went out of their way to welcome us and there was never a cross word before, during or after the game - and we sat in the upper deck with almost no other Clemson fans. Best of luck for the rest of your season!
