This is no joke.

The girl playing who chose the category college football is an Ohio State University student, and she did not buzz in...

she's a hurting buckaroo, since she bet $9000.00 on the final question about Harvard, and lost....

Honestly, why throw in the "hey y'all" stereotype?

Feb 14, 2014, 8:52 PM

Not everyone from the area talks like that, and frankly, most of my fraternity bros, girlfriends, and neighbors at Clemson were from the North.

Re: Honestly, why throw in the "hey y'all" stereotype?

Feb 14, 2014, 9:13 PM

I am from Anderson (Williamston actually) and never say hey y'all. I have since lived all around the world and country, but I never said that before either.

And what is wrong with hey y'all?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Re: Honestly, why throw in the "hey y'all" stereotype?

Feb 14, 2014, 9:32 PM

Nothing is wrong with it, but when making a reference to Clemson or any other Southern institution, why throw in a stereotyping phrase? It's a bit insulting. I am a proud Southern person, but never say "hey y'all". It's like making a reference to California and saying "totally" or a Hispanic and saying "La Cucaracha". It's common and shallow.

I'm from California and I totaly agree with

I agree knowitall, why would anyone think "hey y'all" is stereotyping or even have an issue with it. Why not take pride in being from the south, it's a phrase associated with the south even if everyone doesn't say it......a lot of southerners do though.

Some of you up tight guys who have a problem being southern should travel north past Pennsylvannia and talk to some Northern women......you'll appreciate being southern when they ask you to keep talking because they like it.

Paula Dean helped to perpetuate that stereotype

Also the stereotype that southerners are racists...although I run into some people that do a good enough job of perpetuating that image. Sigh.

Feb 15, 2014, 12:29 AM

Main reason that was said was to assist the person answering the question. Who could have been from anywhere and would obviously realize the southern connotation it carries. Secondly cdixon11, most fraternities at clemson are predominantly southern people SC NC and GA natives specifically. Yes you may have had some northern friends and neighbors, but the entire school is probably more than 90% southern.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

And none of the contestants could answer the question...

Feb 15, 2014, 6:16 AM

I thought at least the Ohio State gal would get it; and then they knew The Black Knights of Army? I can't believe that was the one question in the college football category that nobody knew, complete and utter silence. Kids these days...smh.

Feb 16, 2014, 1:26 PM

football have somehow made your program relevant in the grand scheme of things? LOL. Seriously??

Clemson is a top 20~25 program of all time. USuC is in the bottom third of all time. Do you think the 15 million people watching Clemson beat Ohio State a couple weeks ago knew about Clemson? How many people even cared to watch USuC in the credit card bowl?

The only thing USuC is top 25 in is all-time losses. Have fun trying to convince yourself otherwise.

Hopefully we can play Ohio State so people will watch us too...lol. The country loves em......14.75 million followed them at the Orange Bowl on television....it was good exposure for the Clemson program....maybe before long someone will be able to answer that question if you keep it up. College football fans...gotta love em....
