I can't figure this league out. During the draft when the Jets took their first safety, one announcer was saying how he would pair with Gilchrist to form one of the best safety tandems in the NFL...

This is exactly why I don't mind when an NFL player holds out for more money. They have to do it while they have the upper hand. It would be different if they had guaranteed contracts.

MG signed a contract with the Jets a couple of years ago -

2.5mil signing bonus and 8.5mil guaranteed. The total contract was $22 for 4 years so he had probably walked away with more that that from the Jets depending on structure. He only will have himself to blame if he's not ok financially. He can still be picked up elsewhere and make additional $.

Hopefully he can come back but that is a bad injury and sadly the team can just cut him with little or no repercussions.

He was the only returning safety the Jets had worth a d-mn. If it heals with no problems, he won't be on the market long. Too many teams need veteran safeties.
