Kevin Steele and Coach Venables, this is REALLY a head scratcher!

Hear Steele's playbook might as well have been written in Spanish.

Agreed. There's no comparison in NFL talent development.

I think it probably had more to do with Ed Orgeron. Guy is supposedly and unbelievable recruiter. I wish he had stayed out on the West Coast.

With "love" like that who needs hate. Baffles me as to why he would choose a
sagging program like LSU over us, but it is what it is.

good luck to young Mr. Smith.***

I'd rather LSU have him then FSU...is recruitment is far from over though, especially if he's talking about taking all five official visits.

Who's the #2 guy on our CB board for '16 recruiting gurus?

I can't seem to remember, but I think the drop off is pretty significant.

It's not over yet - still a year to go.

Didn't realize LSU picked up Orgeron, great pick up for them - dude can flat out recruit.

For relaxing times, make it Suntory time

We'll likely pick up the recruitment of 4/5 star Trayvon Mullen a little more now. Don't think we're completely out of the running for Saivion Smith yet, especially if LSU struggles a bit this year. Props to Orgeron, he's one #### of a recruiter and this is a loss we can live with.

Our staff should continue to pursue.

If he committed so soon after one visit to LSU, I agree.

Seems like he was just excited after that visit. I wouldn't be surprised if he decommits by the start of next season

He does have some teammates and some on their way to Clemson. This definitely helps. Another great defensive year and he will be watching with great thoughts.

Maybe but Ed Orgeron is simply a great recruiter...

Posted: Feb 24, 2015 1:52 PM

Unless he leaves, I would doubt Smith changes his mind.

Yea, I've heard Orgeron is a very good recruiter...connects well with the players

That's what I think too. Imperative our coaches stay in contact.

Re: FB Update: 5-star DB target commits to LSU

Yeah, maybe... maybe not. A kid like this, i.e.: with the talent, the spotlight, the desire and the dream (I would say ambition, but ambition comes later, with a little maturity, a few bumps and bruises, and a reasonably clear view of the playing field), is still just a kid that wants to make everyone happy and make the right decision and doesn't even begin to understand what it's all about. External pressure and influence is nearly impossible to resist, let alone his own nascent sense of self determination. So, regarding his "commitment" to LSU (those other tigers, who apparently have a habit of stealing more than tradition from other schools), in the immortal words of another storied professional, "it ain't over 'til it's over!" I hope we still manage to land him, but I wish him all the success possible, wherever he goes, so long as it doesn't interfere with Clemson's.

Well we finally lost one, but it is not over 'til it is over

Posted: Feb 24, 2015 2:51 PM

It appears he will take his 5 official visits........Dabo has a chance!

Agreed, Orgeron is one of the best in the business as far as recruiting goes. But Dabo is "King of the Living Room" Just as B. Bowden used to be. We definitely still have a shot if Smith is a "Clemson Man"

For relaxing times, make it Suntory time

What's a god-brother?

Re: FB Update: 5-star DB target commits to LSU

Posted: Feb 24, 2015 6:56 PM

Dante Fowler Sr. is Savion's god-father, therefore Dante Fowler Jr. is his god-brother because he is DF Sr's son... kind of like faux brothers or "play" brothers... LOL

explanation given because i couldn't quite decipher if the question was tongue-in-cheek or not...

I think we can still turn him.

But I understand about loving Clemson with all your heart and going elsewhere.

I bleed orange but chose to attend Wofford. Didn't love Wofford before or after. Always loved Clemson but made the decision for academic reasons to attend Wofford. And I probably wouldn't had fit in with a larger campus.

Yup, bled orange my whole life and still do today but The Citadel was the school for me and I am thankful to call it my alma mater. I love Clemson with all my heart and always will.

in his chosen field, or it's another academically-related reason. But, he did not mention that. I wonder how LSU made Kevin Steele's 70-point Orange Bowl defense look rosy to him...

Maybe Steele isn't even going to be there when he goes back. He certainly was mentally absent from many of our games when he was on our staff. I hate to see this young man fall for that.

2020 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg

We still have a great chance

Posted: Feb 24, 2015 8:38 PM

LSU isn't exactly poised for greatness next year after a not so great year in 2014. If he sucks it up again they might be calling for his head. If Miles seat is getting hot we will probably turn him.

Give it some time. Let Dabo work that magic.
