Hunter Johnson was ranked higher as a recruit than Tua

but for some reason never got a shot when our offense was putrid against Alabama in the playoffs.
I just can't understand that. For those of you saying just trust the coaches when it comes to the QB situation....well it's decisions like this that make it hard to.....

So your logic is because a guy was ranked higher in hs he deserves a chance to play because another guy on a different team got to play?
Hs rankings don't mean #### when you get into college. Watching HJ light it up in garbage time against the Citadel does not warrant playing in a playoff game. If he wasn't ready then he wasn't ready

Ranked higher as a recruit? I know you’re trolling, but...

Recruiting stars mean absolutely zip once they get to campus. They have to earn that playing time and it appears that HJ didn’t do that, coach.

So you're saying we our staff has trouble evaluating HS talent?

Either our staff missed on Hunter or Dabo didn’t give him a shot. Has to be one of the two.
I think he was just scared to pull the trigger but Saban wasn’t.
You’re not going to tell me a kid as smart and physically gifted as HJ wasn’t ready.

Johnson wasn’t ready to play at this level and needed time to adjust to better competition. Just ask yourself way his transfer options were Duke, Purdue, and Northwestern?

Wasn't ready to play at this level? Are you kidding me?
He looked just fine in the spring game last year.
KB didn't look ready to play at this level this past spring and he's a fifth year senior....

So your justification is a practice game four months after the season ? And it was also a game in which the QB couldn’t be hit. But you discount the 14 real games KB played and the first 6 he was our offense. Also KB isn’t afraid to compete, he didn’t tuck it and run to a school with no competition.

Nobody is bashing KB, but our offense needed a QB that could effectively throw the ball downfield not just against Alabama but several other games during the year. He should have gotten some meaningful playing time at some point to show what he could do.

instead of just the Wake Forest and Citadel performances. Hunter Johnson didn't do so well when given opportunities later in the season against FBS level competition.

If he were ready to be the starter at that time he would’ve done a better job in those games. His arm talent was obvious but at that point he was not ready to take over for KB.

He showed you nothing in his garbage time play or practice that indicated he was the better option against Alabama.

probably because he was not the #1 QB, or even top 10 out of HS.

He was #18 overall on rivals, way ahead of Tua and ranked slightly better on 247 composite.

obviously he was overrated. He is a really good QB, but not elite.
