Hunter Johnson was ranked higher as a recruit than Tua

Aug 24, 2018, 12:43 PM

but for some reason never got a shot when our offense was putrid against Alabama in the playoffs.

I just can't understand that. For those of you saying just trust the coaches when it comes to the QB situation....well it's decisions like this that make it hard to.....

Unfortunately the OL didn't show up that night for CU

Aug 24, 2018, 12:46 PM

This is why everyone is freaking out about OL recruiting right now.

Did someone mention OL recruiting?

Aug 24, 2018, 2:24 PM [ in reply to Unfortunately the OL didn't show up that night for CU ]

guys within 2-3 yards of the LOS is hard to block with 5/6 guys. That is what happens with no downfield threat. It is ignorant to put that on the OL.

Aug 24, 2018, 12:47 PM

So your logic is because a guy was ranked higher in hs he deserves a chance to play because another guy on a different team got to play?

Hs rankings don't mean #### when you get into college. Watching HJ light it up in garbage time against the Citadel does not warrant playing in a playoff game. If he wasn't ready then he wasn't ready

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Ranked higher as a recruit? I know you’re trolling, but...

Aug 24, 2018, 12:53 PM

Recruiting stars mean absolutely zip once they get to campus. They have to earn that playing time and it appears that HJ didn’t do that, coach.

So you're saying we our staff has trouble evaluating HS talent?

Either our staff missed on Hunter or Dabo didn’t give him a shot. Has to be one of the two.

I think he was just scared to pull the trigger but Saban wasn’t.

You’re not going to tell me a kid as smart and physically gifted as HJ wasn’t ready.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Are you ever going to let it go?

Aug 24, 2018, 12:55 PM

Johnson wasn’t ready to play at this level and needed time to adjust to better competition. Just ask yourself way his transfer options were Duke, Purdue, and Northwestern?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Are you ever going to let it go?

Aug 24, 2018, 1:02 PM

Really? Bashing HJ? Dude is smart, that’s why those were options for him.

Aug 24, 2018, 1:02 PM [ in reply to Are you ever going to let it go? ]

Wasn't ready to play at this level? Are you kidding me?

He looked just fine in the spring game last year.

KB didn't look ready to play at this level this past spring and he's a fifth year senior....

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Are you ever going to let it go?

Aug 24, 2018, 1:16 PM

So your justification is a practice game four months after the season ? And it was also a game in which the QB couldn’t be hit. But you discount the 14 real games KB played and the first 6 he was our offense. Also KB isn’t afraid to compete, he didn’t tuck it and run to a school with no competition.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Are you ever going to let it go?

Aug 24, 2018, 5:03 PM

Nobody is bashing KB, but our offense needed a QB that could effectively throw the ball downfield not just against Alabama but several other games during the year. He should have gotten some meaningful playing time at some point to show what he could do.

The coot troll will never let it go as long as he gets some suckers to reply

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Maybe the coaches watched the Carolina and Miami tape

Aug 24, 2018, 12:56 PM

instead of just the Wake Forest and Citadel performances. Hunter Johnson didn't do so well when given opportunities later in the season against FBS level competition.

I'm good enough, I'm smart enough, and doggone it, people like me.

^Bingo^

Aug 24, 2018, 1:24 PM

If he were ready to be the starter at that time he would’ve done a better job in those games. His arm talent was obvious but at that point he was not ready to take over for KB.

Hunter Johnson was not the answer...

Aug 24, 2018, 1:22 PM

He showed you nothing in his garbage time play or practice that indicated he was the better option against Alabama.

probably because he was not the #1 QB, or even top 10 out of HS.

badge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Hunter Johnson was ranked higher as a recruit than Tua

Aug 24, 2018, 4:37 PM

He was #18 overall on rivals, way ahead of Tua and ranked slightly better on 247 composite.

Re: Hunter Johnson was ranked higher as a recruit than Tua

Aug 24, 2018, 5:43 PM

obviously he was overrated. He is a really good QB, but not elite.
