Why do we have banners at the stadium for 2012 & 2010 ACC

Oct 25, 2013, 9:27 AM

titles? It's embarrassing. We finished 2nd in our division to FSU. This is the crap Texas A&M pulls. We're Clemson. We're better than that.

Oct 25, 2013, 9:35 AM

Since both of us had 1 loss in 2012 we claim it. They got to go to the ACCCG because of the head-to-head tiebreaker, but both teams were 6-1 in the conference and technically both were divisional champs.

would do?

We didn't win because FSU beat us head to head.

Same scenario for Steve Spurrier's alleged ACC Championship at Duke. It didn't happen. UVA was ACC Champs because they had the same record & beat Duke head to head.

Re: Don't you think that's bush league? something the Poultry

Oct 25, 2013, 9:44 AM

Yeah, I agree with you, but that's how Dabo and the ADept want to spin it.

However, in 5-10 years when recruits see it and consider that they were 10 or 5 years old at the time they're not going to go looking on the net for head-to-head battles, all they'll see is the banners with the titles.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

division but has a tie-breaker for who gets to play in the conference championship game. Now, in YOUR mind, that team playing in Charlotte is the ACTUAL champion of the division, but that's not how the ACC has structured it, so it's just your opinion.

So, Dabo and the ADept have "spun" it by complying with the definition of the conference.

Yeah, I don't care about them or if FSU does it

Oct 25, 2013, 11:58 AM

It bother me WE do it.

There was an article a couple of years ago when Texas A&M joined the SEC ridiculing them for claiming Big 12 co-titles when they finished tied for their division but yet were 2nd or 3rd in the tie-breakers. I thought it was ridiculous. I thought it was ridiculous when teams like Tennessee, UGA, Alabama & Notre Dame claim these excessive national titles.

Now WE do it whether or not its sanctioned by the ACC. I thought the ACC sucked? This same ACC that added a year probation to us. The same ACC that stripped GT of the 2009 ACC Title because of a $180 shirt?

Justify it all you want but its wrong.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It's not Bush League, that's how the Conference does it

Oct 25, 2013, 9:58 AM [ in reply to Don't you think that's bush league? something the Poultry ]

Clemson and FSU were officially co-champions last year; they got the tiebreaker. There's even a trophy for it. That's how the rules are written.

Do I care about a trophy or a "co-championship"? No. I don't even care that much about Division championships. But it's not like we're making up the title or anything. And I might be wrong about this but I doubt they issue "co-division championship" rings to the players.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Don't you think that's bush league? something the Poultry

Oct 25, 2013, 10:12 AM [ in reply to Don't you think that's bush league? something the Poultry ]

Totally agree. CU has adopted some very chicken-esque, poser type behavior since Y2K, but then again I'm a bit of a hardliner. If I had my way, NO FAN would EVER touch Howard's Rock or run down the Hill. (unless their seats were on the Hill and even then, the part the players run down would be separated with rope or electric fencing)My belief has always been that if you want to touch that rock and run down that hill, you should have to pay the price in the weight room and in practice year round, the same way those players do. Now we have any old Joe Blow getting this privilege, not to mention, "the abomination of desolation" that is the Lady's Clinic and their yearly desecration of all that is SUPPOSED to be holy about CU football. And you wonder why the administration doesn't put top shelf security for the Rock high on the priorities list?

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Clemson DID NOT "claim" it. The ACC awarded it.

Oct 25, 2013, 10:30 AM [ in reply to Since both of us had 1 loss in 2012 we claim it ]

This is nothing like UNC's self-proclaimed Coastal Division title and rings.

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

If Alabama can claim National Titles that they technically

did not earn, then we should be able to hang banners that we TECHNICALLY( by the rules set) EARNED. No matter if it doesn't meet your standards. And in all honesty, we have no more historical football tradition than A&M. They are very similar to us historically AND had to play Texas, Oklahoma and Nebraska every year( when they all WERE something). The banners are like pins on a uniform....not many dissect each one....it's the OVERALL LOOK that impresses recruits.

Re: Banners

Oct 25, 2013, 9:38 AM

The ACC recognizes co-champions. Both FSU and CU
had 7-1 conference records in 2012. FSU went to Charlotte because they won the head-to-head matchup.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

If it were up to me I wouldn't recognize division titles

Oct 25, 2013, 9:40 AM

especially not shared division titles.

However, it isn't up to me and Clemson can put up banners for anything they've been awarded if they see fit.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

There are as many teams in each division now, ...

Oct 25, 2013, 12:24 PM

.. as there were in the entire ACC in the 80's (seven). So, I don't think that it's bad to raise the banner. It's just about as impressive to win a division now, as it was to win the conference then.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

There were 8 teams in the ACC in the '80s

Oct 25, 2013, 2:32 PM

GT joined in '79. There were 7 from '72 to '79, after Sakerlina left and Before GT joined, although I think GT waited to join in football until like 1983
