Does the CFP #1 team get to choose between Orange/Cotton?

Nov 27, 2018, 10:18 AM

...or asked another way...after we win Saturday are we a lock to Orange?

#1 gets their choice. Have heard, not confirmed, they want to go to Dallas.

#1 and #2 are home teams in the semi's and #1 home team in the final.

I'd say 90% chance we are in Miami.

Nov 27, 2018, 10:23 AM

If #1 Bama plays #4 Oklahoma, that game will likely be held in Miami. That is the only scenario where Clemson doesn't play in Miami. (unless we lose to Pitt)

And to be clear, the #1 team does not choose.

Nov 27, 2018, 10:25 AM

The committee will place the #1 seed in the most advantageous city.

Now, I'm not saying there's no discussion among the committee and the #1 team's AD. But, it is the committee's decision.

When assigning teams to the two sites, the selection committee will place the top two seeds at the most advantageous sites, weighing criteria such as convenience of travel for its fans, home-crowd advantage or disadvantage and general familiarity with the host city and its stadium. Preference will go to the No. 1 seed.

If bama is #1 I think they will be a lock for the cotton

Nov 27, 2018, 10:31 AM

Last year Clemson was #1 and was placed in the sugar, which was much more advantageous for Bama and their fans. I don't see how this year will be any different with Bama/Oklahoma and the cotton bowl.

Re: If bama is #1 I think they will be a lock for the cotton

No, last year was totally different. Arlington, Texas is about a 9.5 hour drive from Bama. Miami is about a 12 hour drive.

Oklahoma is right up the road about 2.5 hours.

Last year, you're talking about sending Clemson across the entire country on a long trip and then basically shorten the following week by a day if you win the first game.

If my memory serves me Dabo chose that location and it was disastrous on many levels

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

dabo chose the location of the practice field

Nov 27, 2018, 11:07 AM

the schools have no say in the city.

Geville Tiger on Clemson football , "Dabo's only problem is he has to deal with turd fans questioning every move he makes.”

New Orleans was the shortest travel distance for #1 Clemson

Doesn't matter where #4 is.

It is based on shortest distance from #1 team's campus

Nov 27, 2018, 10:37 AM

Alabama = Arlington, TX
Clemson = Miami Gardens, FL
Notre Dame = Arlington, TX
Ohio State = Arlington, TX
Oklahoma = Arlington, TX
Central Florida = Miami Gardens, FL

OK now that we have that figured out (NOT), lets go beat PITT

but isn't this the part where everyone

Nov 27, 2018, 11:01 AM

claims conspiracy theory on teams being hand picked to the 3/4 slots to make it harder for clemson?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Not necessarily harder for Clemson, just easier for Bama***

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

Yes, I bet whomever is more impressive winning their championship game...

Nov 27, 2018, 11:06 AM [ in reply to but isn't this the part where everyone ]

Either OKU or OSU will jump Notre Dame bc that will make it easier for Bama and Clemson would have to play a better offense in first round.

I think if it's 1. Bama 2. Clemson 3. ND 4. Oklahoma They may switch Notre Dame and Oklahoma to avoid that scenario.
