I think he decided to walk on at Clemson instead of play at Georgia Southern. But, he was definitely not on scholarship.

As an interesting (at least to me) aside, both of Venables kids ARE on scholarship. It'll probably never happen, but if push came to shove those 2 scholarships could be repurposed and CBV could just come out of pocket to pay for his kid's tuition, like Dabo does.

But, Venables could, legally and ethically, decide he wanted 2 more 5* DBs and, should he so desire, sign them and put them on scholarship.

All I'm saying is that it's an interesting situation where a coach can essentially add 2 scholarships by using his own money.

Both Jake and Tyler Venables would being playing at a Power 5 school if not at Clemson. Can't compare them to Will and Drew Swinney.
