Home Deliveries

Apr 4, 2020, 7:53 PM

The Caronavirus has resulted in many stores and businesses utilizing home delivery service. Heck, this is nothing new. Back in the 1920's and 30's every grocery store in my home town sent an employee each morning to their regular customers house. He would inform the homemaker of fresh vegetables, meats and other items. Later in the morning, the employee would return with the groceries. Families ran an account with the store and on Saturday the employee brought the bill for that week's groceries. My Mother very seldom went to the grocery store.

Did they come and pick up diapers in those days? When I was a little kid we had a truck that would come around picking up diapers and dropping off fresh ones.

A few big cities do have cloth diaper services that do that.

There was an episode of Dirty Jobs where Mike Rowe went on a route. A job I could not see myself ever being able to do.

Diaper Deliveries

My grandad had a diaper delivery business. All the grandkids would ride the trucks during the summers, picking up soiled and delivering fresh cloth diapers. My grandad was number 1 in the number 2 business.

We used cloth in the mid 70's when I was a baby. They would pick them up and drop them off.

If people were as good as their obituary - and products were as good as advertised - this would truly be a wonderful world !!

Alachua, FL, near Gainesville.

Diaper services were not available in my area until after WW2. Families with babies had a huge supply of diapers and wash dy was almost every day.

When I was growing up in Florence county during the '50's and early '60's we had what was called the farmer payment plan for food, auto, tractor and even medical services. My mother called in a grocery order each week and it was delivered to our house right about the time we were sitting down to supper, and more often than not the delivery person sat down and ate with us.

You're our "national treasure" on TNET. If you need anything, just say the word. But stay home for now and keep posting your gems.
