downs, blah, blah, blah...Danny had them ready to play every week. Not once on Tiger net did I read all the media BS about Clemsoning etc. It was just: "who do we play next?"
Dabo is doing work. Coaching his knuts off. Win em all y'all.

It was mostly those 20 yrs. between Danny and Dabo when we developed that reputation . Thank you Dabo for bringing football back to Clemson .

I think we developed it under Bowden. Hatfield and West did not lose many games they were supposed to win because they were underdogs in those games. Tommy lost a lot of games he was supposed to win. The WVU blowout which is on Dabo contributed to the reputation.

And instead of dancing, D. Ford would pass out victory cigars to the players.

Danny teams lost many games they should not have. Sad but true. I think he was around .500 in games played at Duke. Honestly Dabo seems to be ready to surpass Danny as our best coach. Time will tell. This comes from a guy who thought Dabo was a bad hire originally. It took me a couple of years to see the improvement in our overall program before I was swayed. Mainly, Dabo hired the best coaches he could. Tommys coordinators never made a splash. Dabos have.

Back then Tnet was loose leaf paper notes thumb tacked to a cork board in Johnstone. They seemed more focused on phone numbers to call "for a good time" and alternating besmirching and defending the honor of various co-eds, but whatever.
Examples: of 1981 Tnet posts, go:
"Will the person who stole my KISS platform shower shoes please return them."

The media had a "Field Day". Even after the 81 nc, There was plenty of criticism, when we almost beat the tigers again in 82. Yes, I played in the 1982 game and Contrary to what Larry Williams wrote in his book, WCU had the lead at halftime. This was in The G'ville News the next few weeks. "Ford Needs To Stop Running The Ball So Much!"

I thought Tnet didn't start up until 1996? Weird....

Dannys offense drew constant criticism, but defense NEVER did

I vividly remember the sarcastic cheer "Up the middle, up the middle, up the middle, PUNT!"
Danny drove us crazy with those 17-13 games. If there was a "spread" we almost never beat it. But I do recall if we ever had the lead and got the ball with 8 mins left, the opponent rarely got it back.

IMHO I think you are only remembering just the good times

about that remarkable season. I went to most every home game that year. There were grumbling and complaining after we beat Wofford. Several comments were made about Clemson not scoring enough points. Same thing occurred after the NC State game too.
The biggest difference is that we did not have social media and screen names to hide behind.
To me social media has taken a lot of the enjoyment out of sports. Your team is on top 1 week and being slammed the next week.
A TNetter made a great suggestion yesterday. He / she said to get off of TigerNet spend time with your family , enjoy time with you wife and kids. Great advice!!!

I was a sophomore @Clemson in 1981 and I can tell you most of us didn't know what to feel. It seems like every game just went our way and then one day we were high up in the polls. I especially remember the build up before our game vs UNCheat in Chapel Hill. Now that was a nail biter! I will never forget the headline in the State Newspaper the next day in big bold print.." TIGERS ARE 10-8ious!" What great times and hopefully we can relive those special times again reali soon!!! Go Tigers!
