IMO - House Minority Leader Todd Rutherford, D-Richland should perhaps read The Bible. Maybe then he would understand why Dabo chooses his course of action.

This jerk must have ridden Obama's coattails into office. Can't wait until we can vote again and make things right.

How about you read the BIBLE and you tell someone what it says about gay marriage and abortion.... oh wait it doesn't say a thing. And then how about you not make assumptions about Dabo's courses of action. Chances are he doesn't know where or to whom he is speaking and he has someone schedule appearances. To imply that Dabo Swinney has a motive for speaking at this event is wrong. You sir.... need a clue.

“Judge not, that you be not judged. For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you. Why do you see the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when there is the log in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye."Matthew 7:1-15

That dog only hunts if you follow the other prohibitions in Leviticus. No bacon or ham. NO FOOTBALL, PIGSKIN!!!!No cotton blend shirts. No corn and peppers in your garden. No shrimp, clams, oysters, or crabs. And my personal favorite, no sitting in public seating on the off chance that a woman having her monthly period(therefore unclean, and sitting behind her makes you unclean) has sat there. Unless you follow all these as well, you are interpreting the Bible and picking to follow only the ones you agree with.PS I'm a Christian and I don't even try to follow the 300 prohibitions in Leviticus, I figure the Good Lord will have to forgive me for those.

Are you saying that the bible says nothing about marriage or murder when you say it doesn't talk about gay marriage or abortion? Bc it does. I could give you many verses about it but it seems you know the bible pretty well considering you used a bible verse. Speaking of are you using this verse to imply that we are to never judge? How about the part about hogs and pearls? If we don't use discernment how are we to judge between the two. Or how about verse 15 wolves in sheeps clothing? If we don't use judgement how are we to discern the two? You know John 7:24 says don't judge too. But if we stop right there we are doing not reading it in context bc the rest says to judge with "right" judgement.

So while bible says nothing about gay marriage doesn't mean the bible doesn't speak about marriage. While bible doesn't use the word abortion doesn't mean murder isn't in there. Also if you are going to break out "thy shall not judge verse then use it in context.

Matthew 19:4-5 "And he (Jesus) answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female. And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh?"

1. If you don't believe the Holy Bible or the words of Jesus, then this means nothing to you.

2. If you do believe, there is absolutely no mistaking or misinterpreting the clear meaning.

3. We don't see any reference to Adam and Steve, or Stefanie and Eve.

4. I am much more of a Dabo fan today than I was yesterday.

Unfortunately the Bible also says that marriage between one man and SEVEN HUNDRED women is acceptable(King Solomon), and has many instances of polygamy(Abraham, King David), incest(Lott and his daughters), unmarried sex(entire Song of Solomon),and ethnic cleansing genocide(Jericho, Aye). I'm a Christian and I am not about to suggest that those are something I plan to do even if they are in the Bible.

Yes the Bible mentions, but does not condone, your examples. The world, our country, and all individuals would make this world a far better place by following the words of Jesus, whether they are a believer or not.

I promised myself; that I would never get into one of these discussions, but here goes. The Book of Leviticus pretty much defines the Mosaic law concerning homosexuality. Jesus The Christ said, I have not come to destroy the law, but to fulfill the law. You could probably interpret passages from The Book of Matthew in chapter 19, in any way that you wish, but Jesus said marriage was intended for one man, one woman. Now bare in mind, I'm not judging anyone. Ain't my job, ain't my problem. I'm just telling what I've read in the Bible, and how I've interpreted it. There are three people that I work with or am associated with; one that I think a great deal of, that are gay. I respect them and they respect me, and they know my beliefs, and we don't bash one another because of our beliefs.

Read Genesis........ Tell me when you see when same set union takes place or did God have to be so literal. People who do not believe the Bible to be the live g word of God will spin it any way they want. It's part of the Christian faith. If people are offended by it, there are plenty other denominations to choose from. Very simple.

I'm a Christian and I think your wrong. The question isn't whether you believe its a sin or not. The question is do we Christians get to impose our beliefs on others? If the Bible says it's a sin then among Christians there's no debate. But that has nothing to do with the issue. In a free Democratic Republic people have a right NOT to be Christians. And the State has no right or business to impose Christian values on all of its citizens (.."render unto Ceasar".)

You can have your own opinion but you can't have your own facts. Our history as a nation is a repetition of bad government policies based on religion:

"The Bible" was used as a means to prevent women from voting or owning land.

"The Bible" was used as a means to perpetuate slavery.

"The Bible" was used to justify the illegality of inter-racial marriage (Loving vs. State of Va.).

"The Bible" was used to relegate Irish, Italian and other European immigrants to a 2nd class indentured state, herded into slums because they were deemed a separate race.

I was raised in SC and I remember the Bible being used to prevent blacks from coming to white churches!

Now some want "The Bible" to be used to deny a segment of the population equal rights and protections under "secular" law. Gay people don't want you to 'condone" their orientation. They don't care. They just want the same property rights, death survival rights, contract rights (the law of familiars) as heterosexual couples enjoy. Under a secular, Democratic Republic they have a right, under the constitution to seek those rights. The same as you have a right to seek protection from an unreasonable property tax value assessment.

It breaks my heart to see "so called" Christians use Holy Scripture and the life of Christ as a tool to beat down, defame and condemn other God's children solely because they are different. That is NOT Christian.

One final point. I was born heterosexual. From the day I was born to this minute I have always been biologically and physically attracted to women. I had no choice in the matter. Therefore I cannot make a decision to find other men biologically attractive. That is an impossibility for me. So ask yourself if you could? Can you make a decision today, that from now own your going to be sexually attracted to a man?

If the answer is no, then you have no more "choice" than gay people have.

For the love of Christ, leave them alone. God is the Judge.

Ok, since gay people don't have a choice in their same sex attractions, then it must be a genetic thing, right? With all of the millions of liberal hollywood dollars given to gay rights groups each year, you'd think someone would have won a Nobel prize by now with documented, certified research on the genetic theory, wouldn't you? It's not ever gonna happen, my friend. Besides, if there were a gay genetic marker, it would have died out by now, for obvious reasons. That is, assuming that you have carefully read your Darwin. I would suggest a thorough reading of Romans 1: 21-28 as the best definition as to why homosexuality exists. I often wondered why my gay friends and co-workers were so obsessed with their pets, especially dogs, many times treating them much better than humans, and very often loving them more than humans. That's where their unconditional love comes from.....their pet "children". It's clear to me reading Romans 1: 21-28 that homosexuality is really a cardio problem. According to the apostle Paul, gays have a God shaped hole in their heart.

Why do you care about my sexual orientation?

Posted: May 24, 2015 7:38 AM

Genetics is a brand new science. Man has been around for three million years or so, or 6000 years, but the discovery of DNA was only in recent years. I doubt there is much research into the genetics of homosexuality because there are way more important things to research when it comes to genetics.

Of course nobody chooses to be homosexual. Why would a 12 year old kid who gets his #### beat up every day for being gay choose to be gay even before he is a sexual being at all. One day maybe somebody will study the genetics of homosexuality but it sure doesn't matter and would be a waste of money.

The Bible has plenty to say about sin & it nist definitely list homosexuality as a sin & it says Marriage is between one man & one woman.
It also talks about a generation of people turned over to a reprobate man & what happens to people when they work that which in unnatural with people of the same sex. You need to read the bible yourself before you tell others they do not know what they are talking about.

Attila the Hun was a liberal ?
I'm pretty certain the Romans would disagree . He was a murderous , incessantly heinous and bloodthirsty conqueror . He enslaved and/or he executed those who opposed his invasions and attempts to overthrow Roman rule all over Europe .
If that isn't more in line with a modern Republican train of thought , I would like to know what is .
What we know of liberal politics in a broad sense is that they preach harming no one , leaving properties and rights unmolested and human rights are upheld sometimes to disturbing lengths.
Attila was no liberal .

@ tbennett117 : were you directing that at me ? If so , I usually stay out of discussions where I am not an expert ...and morality is not my field.
However , sometimes I think that one man ...any man , will lay some sort of his own beliefs and philosophies down and expect that this is to be law or taken literally . It isn't that simple , and it isn't for any man to ever hold sway over another man's life or beliefs simply because the two disagree fundamentally or have different ideals.
Beliefs are tricky that way , sometimes people begin to think of them as facts .

Leviticus 18 New International Version (NIV)

NIV vs KJV

18 The Lord said to Moses, 2 “Speak to the Israelites and say to them: ‘I am the Lord your God. 3 You must not do as they do in Egypt, where you used to live, and you must not do as they do in the land of Canaan, where I am bringing you. Do not follow their practices. 4 You must obey my laws and be careful to follow my decrees. I am the Lord your God. 5 Keep my decrees and laws, for the person who obeys them will live by them. I am the Lord.

6 “‘No one is to approach any close relative to have sexual relations. I am the Lord.

7 “‘Do not dishonor your father by having sexual relations with your mother. She is your mother; do not have relations with her.

8 “‘Do not have sexual relations with your father’s wife; that would dishonor your father.

9 “‘Do not have sexual relations with your sister, either your father’s daughter or your mother’s daughter, whether she was born in the same home or elsewhere.

10 “‘Do not have sexual relations with your son’s daughter or your daughter’s daughter; that would dishonor you.

11 “‘Do not have sexual relations with the daughter of your father’s wife, born to your father; she is your sister.

12 “‘Do not have sexual relations with your father’s sister; she is your father’s close relative.

13 “‘Do not have sexual relations with your mother’s sister, because she is your mother’s close relative.

14 “‘Do not dishonor your father’s brother by approaching his wife to have sexual relations; she is your aunt.

15 “‘Do not have sexual relations with your daughter-in-law. She is your son’s wife; do not have relations with her.

16 “‘Do not have sexual relations with your brother’s wife; that would dishonor your brother.

17 “‘Do not have sexual relations with both a woman and her daughter. Do not have sexual relations with either her son’s daughter or her daughter’s daughter; they are her close relatives. That is wickedness.

18 “‘Do not take your wife’s sister as a rival wife and have sexual relations with her while your wife is living.

19 “‘Do not approach a woman to have sexual relations during the uncleanness of her monthly period.

20 “‘Do not have sexual relations with your neighbor’s wife and defile yourself with her.

21 “‘Do not give any of your children to be sacrificed to Molek, for you must not profane the name of your God. I am the Lord.

22 “‘Do not have sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman; that is detestable.

23 “‘Do not have sexual relations with an animal and defile yourself with it. A woman must not present herself to an animal to have sexual relations with it; that is a perversion.

24 “‘Do not defile yourselves in any of these ways, because this is how the nations that I am going to drive out before you became defiled. 25 Even the land was defiled; so I punished it for its sin, and the land vomited out its inhabitants. 26 But you must keep my decrees and my laws. The native-born and the foreigners residing among you must not do any of these detestable things, 27 for all these things were done by the people who lived in the land before you, and the land became defiled. 28 And if you defile the land, it will vomit you out as it vomited out the nations that were before you.

29 “‘Everyone who does any of these detestable things—such persons must be cut off from their people. 30 Keep my requirements and do not follow any of the detestable customs that were practiced before you came and do not defile yourselves with them. I am the Lord your God.’”

Here's some more you can have fun with. But I'm sure you can justify how not following these Leviticus commandments are somehow okay, but the sex ones are super duper important.

- Do not wear clothing woven of two kinds of material. Leviticus 19:19

- All that have not fins and scales in the seas, and in the rivers, of all that move in the waters, and of any living thing which is in the waters, they shall be an abomination unto you. Leviticus 9:10

- Whosoever … hath any blemish, let him not approach to offer the bread of his God. For whatsoever man he be that hath a blemish, he shall not approach: a blind man, or a lame, or he that hath a flat nose, or any thing superfluous, Or a man that is brokenfooted, or brokenhanded, Or crookback, or a dwarf, or that hath a blemish in his eye, or be scurvy, or scabbed, or hath his stones broken … He shall not go in unto the vail, nor come nigh unto the altar, because he hath a blemish; that he profane not my sanctuaries. Leviticus 21:17-23

- No one whose testicles are crushed or whose ##### is cut off shall be admitted to the assembly of the LORD. Deuteronomy 23:1

Fearing Liberals

Is what got us to this messed up place. We need to stop worrying about 'offending' our sensitive brothers and start demanding that they acknowledge conservatives as having a legitimate point of view so we can rekindle a some semblance of a spirit of compromise before our entire government collapses under its own weight.

That's a liberal's lie.

[2]

There's no hate for gays except for some nut groups who bathe in self righteousness. Inclusion into what? Churches accept gays when they profess Christ as savior. We accept anyone with that profession and no one without it. We don't excuse but we accept. We don't excuse the sin of homosexuality, bank robbers, adulterers, fornicators, lovers of men more than lovers of God but we know that all of us fall into one of those categories. Anyone who says he's without sin is a liar and the truth is not in him.

That doesn't mean that we justify sin or condone the same. That's the real issue here. That's what gays want. They want the approval of man so they can accuse God of injustice. Well, you go right ahead and do that if you want. I've done it many times on many different issues I've had in life and it never got me anywhere.

Acceptance of gay lifestyle by those of us who think it's a moral issues which parents are obliged to instruct their children on?

You act like some Christians don't love gays. Do you think we don't love sinners while we know that we are sinners saved by grace?

I've took a few hits for saying; God loves the sinner, but hates the sin. Seems some folks think it's contradictory. I don't see how. If one of my children were a drug dealer or some other felon, it doesn't mean, I wouldn't love them any less. However, I would not condone their lifestyle, and I would let them know it.

Re: Your analogy is terrible

The analogy is sin. My belief is dealing drugs is a sin, and so is homosexuality. Would it have been better if I had said, if my child steals a nickel from his buddy? Again, this is my belief and it doesn't have to be yours. God gave you the ability to choose and believe, as he did me.

That's a Christian's lie.

Posted: May 23, 2015 3:14 PM

You profess to "love the sinner," but wish to deny them equal protection under the law to marry the person they love with nothing more than a purely religion-based bias. You say that "Anyone who says he's without sin is a liar and the truth is not in him" and "Do you think we don't love sinners while we know that we are sinners saved by grace?" yet you would not deny same right to yourself or any of the other "sinners" you speak of.

It is an indefensibly position that history will, once again, judge harshly.

will history also judge abortion harshly? I noticed a lot of the gay rights people support abortion too.

Re: That's a Christian's lie.

[3]

I don't deny anything to anyone. The law says you can marry who you want, and that' is that. I don't write the laws I live under them, and because I live in this country, I obey them. I don't agree with them because of my beliefs in the teachings of The Bible. And I still don't hate anyone, and I'm not intolerant of anyone. I'm not going to beat anyone up because they support gay rights or because they are gay, but because I live in the land of the free I have the right to my beliefs, same as anyone. The last time I got into a discussion like this, there was some cat on here wanting all of us over 60 people to hurry up and die out so that the world would be a better place. And Christians are called intolerant and bigoted. Maybe the guy that said this will help start death camps to give us a push towards that end. Won't the world be a fine place then.

And history will never judge me, I'm an insignificant little nobody, and history cares little about me. but I will be judged by The Lord God Almighty, and if he says I was wrong, then maybe I can look you up and tell you, you got it right and I got it wrong. I don't know who you or anyone posting on this board is, but I would rather be friends with everyone, regardless of beliefs. After all, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ said the great commandment is to love The Lord thy God with all thy soul, heart , and mind and your fellow man likewise. Works for me.

Everybody here is arguing about something that's none of my business. I don't get involved in politics or political issues because none of my New Testament heroes got involved in politics or political issues. The list is short, you can find it in The New Testament.

My issue here is that some folks think it's their job to advise a man on how to obey God. That's getting between a man, Dabo, and God. There is no room between me and God by His choice and mine. I'm sure Dabo feels the same way.

My position is that the law of man has nothing to do with God's standards. If that offends you then welcome to the club, you ought to try and live by it.

2019 orange level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg

My position is also that the law of man has nothing to do

Aaaaahhhhhh... The downsides of being a fan of a school in the south... This will all pass soon enough. It wasn't long ago that Jesus frowned upon interracial dating down here too. Can't wait until the day my grandchildren look at me and say, "wait, they seriously weren't ok with that?"

california, Mass, and other states outside the south voted against gay marriage too. Judges in those states overturned that. But please, go ahead and dump on the south if it feels good.

not every Christian supported racism back in the day, and in fact a lot of the abolitionists were Christians.

Hating somebody because of their skin color is a lot different from disagreeing with a certain behavior and thinking it is immoral.

broken down into that imaginary line so many like to draw and use to judge and categorize. Be smart about it. Fact is, Dabo's decision doesn't have to be political or discriminatory. It's not necessarily political or discriminatory to be against two people of the same gender marrying each other. It's entirely possible to just simply not agree with it, especially considering it doesn't do a whole lot for procreation and all that.

Gay's should be able to do what they want. But don't call it marriage. The definition of marriage is one man, one woman. I could care less what homosexuals do, but its not marriage.

I for one think people are born with homosexual tendencies. But people are also born with the desire to look at pornography, engage in prostitution, etc. I don't same sex attraction is a sin, its only becomes a sin when you act on that attraction. Homosexuals are no different than the person who watches porn, and over half the people in the country do.
