Does he plan to say "There's ORANGE in the end zone" this Saturday? May be hard to follow.

Pete is hard to follow regardless. If I'm not watching the game while he's calling it, there are times I have no idea what's going on. I've just never been a Pete fan, but it is what it is.

True, I'd rather listen to Pete than some of these retarded ESPN announcers. I still think we could do better than Pete. Just my opinion.

Getting your finger shut in the car door is better than zipping another appendage up in your fly. While technically true it doesn't mean the original premise was wrong.

Yanity does not compare to Jim Phillips. (I doubt anyone ever will.) That was just another chance to voice my disgust at the garbage announcers employed by ESPN.

I've come to terms with the fact that for me there will never be another Jim Phillips. I'm still a pretty young guy, but I'm pretty sure it will be impossible for someone to match my childhood memories of hearing Jim every Saturday in the Fall.

Feel the same way about bob fulton. Nobody will ever measure up. We were both lucky to have excellent play by play men for a long time.

I had 13 inch TV in Johnstone on while I watched that game. I'm pretty sure they heard me yelling two towns over. That game, y'all. That game.

It really was. I mean, I think it was 45 fouls to 10 or something. That was the most gigantic joke of officiating that I've ever seen on any level or at any sport. Especially at basketball (and my dad was a coach who loved the sport so I've seen lots and lots of basketball.)

his death, Jim Phillips really started to decline as an announcer.
If they were hiring a new announcer at the time, and Phillips was a candidate, Yanity would have beaten him out for the job hands down.

the announcers in the past tended to have - now, they all sound like they graduated from announcers school and got pushed into sports announcing.
No more guys like Jim Phillips, Larry Munson, Bob Fulton, Woody Durham, etc. T
The two guys Carolina now uses think they're personable but they just sound like clowns to me.

In the 70's, when seeing the Tigers on TV was a rare event, I listened to every game on the radio. Listening to Jim, I could follow the Tigers up and down the field, knowing exactly where they were and what they were doing. That is what radio was all about, and the old announcers knew how to bring the game to life for their listeners. To me, Jim will always be the Voice of the Clemson Tigers. He loved them dearly. I remember when Jim wore a toupee while announcing on channel 4, and how odd he looked the first time I saw him without it.

Dang it - I miss Jim Phillips. I can still hear him calling the Wake game when we scored 80+ points and he was having trouble finding the names of the substitute players. You had to love Jim.

This is the way I feel too. Pete just sounds detached, like it's just a job. I never get the feeling that I'm listening to someone who bleeds orange. When we win I want to hear the excitement in his voice. The kind of excitement that just naturally comes out when someone gets excited. When we lose I want to hear the disappointment in his voice. To me he just doesn't seem to connect to a large part of the fan base.

I am sure pete has come to pull for the tigers somewhat through association, but his athletics allegiance lies elsewhere. University of Ohio maybe. Cant remember but I think its an ohio school that isn't ohio st.

about this football season
I am a Pete fan. I like listening to him, and wish I didn't go to so many games or watch them on tv so I could listen to him more! I didn't grow up listening to Jim Phillips, so maybe that is why. I like him a LOT more than many of the announcers I hear for other schools who sound like grumbly old men who have smoked for 50 years.
