Boise at Florida State: most intriguing Week 1 game to me

Aug 7, 2019, 9:40 AM

There's no bigger overreaction in CFB than to Week 1 results (see Virginia Tech and Michigan in 2018). But this is a huge game for Florida State- the pressure on Taggart is palpable, FSU is struggling to find confidence and an identity. Boise is coming off a 10 win season and may expect them to win 10 games this year. Boise coming to the East Coast and beating Power 5 Teams seems like an annual tradition these days.

In 2014 Boise beat a 2-10 Connecticut in CT. IN 2015 Boise beat a 4-8 Virginia in Va. Those are their only east coast wins in the past five years. Hardly awe inspiring. I think FSPU wins this game.

In 2011 they spanked that UGA butt in the GA Dome so add one more to the tradition

One of the biggest lies being told this preseason is that FSU has to be better this year. I think Boise takes them down by 10 to 14

Oh they probably WILL be better, but it's largely

because Taggart and company sold their souls to hire Kendal Briles.

BTW I think *better* for FSU in 2019 is 7-5 or possibly 8-4 if things go really well, not like 10-2 and "FSU is back."

It sounds like SOMEONE is actually impressed with FSU. Not me. Not until Taggart & Co. shows me they understand the game of football. I think BSU upsets FSU much like VT did last year to open the season. I picked VT last year too. I just cannot get on the FSU bandwagon until they actually show up.

Could have helped if the game were in Tallahasse instead of

Jacksonville. Why would they play this game in Jacksonville?

Wish I could give you a dozen TU for that one. Good one

FSU needs the money and didn’t want a home and home

Therefore a “neutral” site where they split the gate was the best option.

Ahh the 2013 Nostalgia Bowl...

Yeah I don't think FSU fans want any part of that game right

now.

Some other week 1 (and week 0) games that are pretty interesting to me:

Florida vs Miami - This game will probably be ugly and terrible and i probably won't watch much of it, but I'm really curious to see what these teams look like - Miami in particular.

Utah at BYU - This Utah team is being hyped as possibly the best in school history and they are the preseason favorites to win the Pac 12 South and contend for the conference title.

Fresno St at USC - This is very similar to the Boise - FSU game. Fresno St was really darn good last year and this is a game that USC could absolutely lose. If the Trojans lose that one you would have to imagine Helton will have 1 foot out the door already after week 1.

Auburn vs Oregon - I'm really not that excited for this game. Auburn games have largely been boring for the last 4 years and I'm not a fan of the neutral site games (especially one in Jerry World), but IS the marquee matchup in week 1 so I'll definitely check it out.

I call it "scary." We open with Boise, then LA Monroe, then UVA.

If we start with a loss to Boise that makes the UVA game a MUST WIN. As a beat writer for FSU said at a booster club meeting last week, "Right now the kids are buying into the changes made in the off season and the new coaches. But, if they start the season 1-2 Willie is gonna have to coach his butt off to keep from losing the team."

I'm in the "Show Me" camp regarding Willie. I really want him to succeed. He can certainly talk the talk. Now, he has to walk the walk.
