Cornell Powell

I never post on game days but this deserves it.
Cornell Powell had his best game ever as a Tiger in the most important time to do it!
We don’t win today without him.
He was the veteran safety outlet for a true freshman QB and kept so many drives alive and helped keep DJ calm.
Outstanding performance and it had to be said TODAY!

Cornell was absolutely clutch. Very happy for the young man.

Best game of Cornell's career, let's hope he continues to play like he did today.

I never felt CP was clutch. My opinion has been altered. You have left a legacy at Clemson, Cornell.

Today I saw what the coaches see in him. Got to be a huge confidence boost for him.

He didn’t drop any passes. Therefore, I’m happy!

Just play within yourself, sir. I don’t expect you to break a tackle or 2 and run 60 yards. Just secure your 8-12 yards a catch and we’ll be just fine.

He far exceeded your expectations (which are reasonable) today.
It’s rare we see yards after the catch like that from him.
Also aggressively catching contested passes was wonderful to see!

Today was his finest. He was acting as if he was playing more than just for the win but for his true Freshman QB who needed someone to make his job easier. Very impressed with 17 today.

100% agree. Good for Cornell for sticking it out while sitting behind some incredibly talented upperclassemen, and then watching as some younger guys came in and became starters over him. Would have been easy for him to leave, but he stayed, worked, and for better. Reminds me of Trevion Thompson’s senior year - Diondre Overton’s too. Keep it going Cornell - we’re gonna need you the rest of the way!

This is exactly why I’ve always thought people were way too hard on him about the UNC hat(or shirt can’t remember) at the basketball game thing.
People always complain about players giving up and transferring when they aren’t getting enough playing time instead of sticking it out and battling to get on the field. With Powell we have a guy that easily could’ve quit and found earlier playing time somewhere else. The fact that he stuck it out at Clemson is a huge reason that we aren’t 6-1 right now.

Catches that were behind or high. Really helped out Big Cinco and helped lead us to victory.

Coach Elliott said he didn't change the game plan for DJ, but I wonder if he might have changed the player rotation a little bit.
Powell, Rodgers and Etienne--all seniors--caught 25 passes for 311 yards from DJ.
The rest of the team caught 5 for 31.
Just thinking the coaches wanted a little more "ownership" on the field.

Scary to think that Elliot wasn't planning on using the tightends at all. I thought that was going to be the safety valve for DJ.
