Coots picked dead last in the SEC by the media

Jul 13, 2016, 9:36 AM

SEC media picks

The pick to win the SEC title was not much of a surprise, however. Our panel picked Alabama to win its third conference title in the last four seasons. The Tide also picked up eight first-place votes in the SEC West, with LSU in contention with three votes and falling nine points short of the West’s crown.

Tennessee is the heavy favorite to win the East with 10 first-place votes, with Florida and Georgia trailing the Volunteers by 13 and 17 points, respectively. Only one panelist picked a team other than Tennessee to win the division.

What’s interesting in the poll is the mishmash of teams behind Alabama and LSU in the SEC West, and the bottom four teams in the East. Three teams in the West were picked to finish last by at least one panelist.

Texas A&M was picked as high as second by a panelist but is predicted to finish fourth after counting the votes. Auburn was picked anywhere from third to seventh and Mississippi State garnered seven last-place votes.

Voting in the East was much closer behind Tennessee, Georgia and Florida. Only seven points separate the last four teams, with South Carolina picking up four last-place votes and two votes as high as fourth. Missouri edged out Kentucky and Vanderbilt by three and four points, respectively, for the fourth spot.

Check out the full results from our panel below and weigh in with your picks in the comments section.

Soooooooo, we aren't the only ones that picking usuck to really suck again, worse than vandy. UMass, Western Carolina and ECU appear to be the only winnable games on their schedule. LOL Nice.

Once upon a time when talking about the B10, many called it the Big 2 and the Little 8.

The SEC could be called the BIG 1 and others.
..... In the last five years, Bama is the only SEC team to rank in the top ten in wins.
.......Only Bama, LSU and Georgia rank in the top 20 in wins over the last 5 years.
.......LSU ended 3 of the last 5 seasons with bowl losses to Bama, ND and Clemson.
..... Georgia is 3-3 in last 6 bowls, losing to Mich St, Nebraska and Central Florida.
.......5 SEC coaches make up half of the Top 10 on the Coaches HOTSEAT list.
.......Spurrier and Richt departed last year taking a lot of SEC winning history with them.
...... LSU wanted to fire Les Miles last year, but Jimbo Fisher refused the job offer & Les is back.
.......Mark Stoops has coached 3 years at Kentucky and has more tenure than half of all SEC coaches.
.......There are almost no QBs in the SEC. Kelly,Dobbs,Harris and a bunch of nobodies are left.
.......Clemson has a winning record over the SEC the last five years with games against the 3 winningest programs in the SEC west, the winningest program in the east over that time frame and SC.

But the SEC has a a lot of fans and ESPN in their corner.

Some ways I suppose that's good for them.

They're playing with house money...nobody expects nothin' from them, so hey, anything they do is a bonus. Any signs of life they show will be lauded as a positive.

Long way from there back to relevancy, mind, and they desperately need one of their QB's to turn out. I dunno if that happens. McIlwain reminds me a bit of old Reggie Ball at GT...he's got a live arm and wheels, he's just really short and just can't see over the OL so he's pretty much reduced to throwing bombs and screens since he can't see well enough out of the pocket to work the middle. And Bobby Bentley's kid looks a lot like Sean White at Auburn to me...not real mobile, not a super-live arm, just...alright, maybe just good enough to get you beat. Bentley still might end up being the better option, but the QB is going to be running for his life this year, because those guys are going to be playing behind an OL that looks...well, really questionable. Not how you really wanna develop true freshman QB's, by throwing them to the wolves in the SEC behind a paper-machee OL. Something tells me we see 3-4 QB's under center at various points this year...again.

They also have no playmakers at WR, TE, or RB, nobody who looks dangerous with the football in their hands.

I guess we're also going to find out how good a DC Boom really is, with the defensive personnel he's got. Whoo, baby, it looks bad.

They really do need to send a collection agency after their old staff for the hole they left them in, personnel-wise. Those guys really did not recruit for the last 2-3 years, at all.

4th Q - delaying my arrival and circling the block as he called plays where El Cid was pounding SCar's stacked line for multiple yards - churning field and clock with every snap, on their way to victory.

Sure, emotionally, the [expletive deleted] were not tuned in, but the fact of the matter is they have even less physical presence throughout their positions this season than last.

So, be kind to [expletive deleted] this season, because it is going to be a rough one for them.

I looked over their schedule and quite frankly it's hard to imagine more than 4 wins. Vandy, maybe. MIssSt, possible. Missou, maybe. ECU may be a loss. UT, UF, UGA, UK, TamU, CU, forget it. Win vs 2 scrubs and 2 toss-up games. 4-8
