But the Trojans had a real football team while the Coots still had an intramural co-ed team.

Darius is showing the true value of an $CU education....

Southern Cal was established and began using the USC acronym first. Here's a little history lesson for him.

In 1801, South Carolina was chartered as South Carolina College. The voluntary enlistment of all students into the Army of the Confederacy forced the College to close in June of 1862. After re-opening in 1865, the institution went through six reorganizations and name changes during the last decades of the 19th century, while legislators, administrators and faculties reassessed the institution's goals and struggled to define its mission. Finally in 1906, the school was rechartered for the third, and last time as the University of South Carolina.

The University of Southern California (The REAL USC) was chartered in 1880; twenty six (26) years BEFORE the University of South Carolina.

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

At least one incarnation was called USC

I think it was the school during reconstruction, but then closed down for a few years and reopened as SC college of agriculture or something to get the morrill act funds.

With that logic they have no leg to stand on about the real Death Valley. It was in Clemson first

What's funny is, even if the Darius Rucker quote were true, it proves that the Real USC has enough reputation to be known far and wide as USC, while they still don't have a recognizable identity beyond their home state.

Pretty sad either way. I almost feel sorry for 'em....
