This post on FGF by someone named CockyLarry, who has over 500 posts on the forum, is a good summary of what it means to be a die-hard gamecock fan. I've heard dozens of coots fans say something similar to this over the years.

It's been a good run.
Gamecockology said it best on Twitter. The glory days are over and there's not a single trophy to show for it. That's not entirely true. There's 5 state champ trophies in row and 3 new years day bowl trophies. No SEC trophy.
I'm thinking of taking my allegiance to the Vols. I didn't go to USC but my wife went to UT. Ive been wavering this for many years and think it's time. We pay money there and still paying off out of state tuition student loans. We will most likely go to games there as a family as our children get older. This doesn't change the fact that I'll always hate Clemson and will still love the Gamecocks but I think I'll focus my Saturdays in the fall around Tenn football.

There seems to be plenty of these kind of coot fans around. They just so happen to pull for the popular team at the moment and really have no connection whatsoever to the program or school. Just wait till we start winning this series again, there will be even less of them.

He's prob one of those guys that moved in-state in the last 5 yrs and figured he had to choose between the two and he chose them and now sees the writing on the wall that they're well on their way to mediocrity again. I personally know a few of those people, they don't go to games nor have they ever. They like spurrier and that's all they know. They got the t-shirts stickers and grill covers but are really clueless.
